My sister is in Midland, NC

We live in Maryland but want to move to NC near the mountains. My husband wants to start a small breakfast/lunch place. Since everyone here is familiar with NC, where is a good place to start a business, buy a home w/land so my girls can run and I don't have to hear from nosy neighbors, and is in or near the mountains?
