Won't have to look to hard!

It was a good morning yesterday. Managed to get out of the house before anyone woke up, so I was able to get down to the show early. This was my first time to a show. Didn't really meet a lot of people, but had a good time anyways. Maybe I just have a anti-social look about me or I was just mezmerized and didn't notice the humans in my surroundings.

.

Anyways, as far as my first show I came away with a lot of questions. Which I'm sure given some time I will find the answers to. One item of note was the perceived lack of variety of breeds. I was excpecting to see more. Why? I have no idea, i just was...It seems that the OEGs are by far the most popular to show...They are nice looking birds and there was one white one that struck me as absolutely stunning...Again, no idea why, it just did...Some of the large breeds were creepy "Jurasic Park" looking and I was afraid they might eat my dogs if I had one...One other thing, While I was there most of the isles were roped off so I assumed you could not go down these to look at the poultry...I viewed from a far...Maybe I was being too polite...Is this common to go to a show and not be able to go down the isles once they are roped from judging?

Outside was interesting when walking around...I ahd no ides what I was looking at most of the time, but is was fun none the less to look.

I look forward to the march show, I will have my chicks by then and will have a little experience under my belt. Maybe spend a lil more time talking and less time looking...All things considered I had a great morning and I am still jazzed about it all...

The roped off isles are being judged. You don't know these things...glad you asked. And politeness was a good rule...you don't want yourself to wander up on a clear isle upon a judge doing his job to get the "look"...haha...I think most assume people know why the isles are roped...Sometimes the next isle is roped off to clear in preparation for the judge to come down next. Hey- if you ever want to know these things, just ask! Most everyone is willing to help answer any questions...Busiest time is right before cooping in by 9 so if you have questions for exhibitors it's best to wait to ask (and view) after all the birds are cooped. The isles are narrow and it can be a challenge to get the birds in and out with extra folks at the coops...

Hope this helps!

DaddysChickens~~yep, it's a rule--when the aisle is roped off for judging, no one is suppose to enter, and if you're showing your birds and dare go on a roped off aisle, you can get kicked out of the show

As soon as the judging on that aisle is finished though, they un-rope it and everyone can go look.
This is the South....so OEGB is the main bird shown. Cute little buggars, but they'll bite the heck out of you as you walk by. Gotta agree....I'd like to see a larger variety of breeds....maybe some of these BYC folks will start to show their birds, and we can enjoy them.

Im definitely thinking about showing a big bird ,Black Copper Marans .Nothing like the jungle raptor though.
Just got a call from mom and some nice gent seems to have given a friend of hers 7 doz. Wyandotte Eggs for hatching. Gee whos got an incubator stashed that will fit that load? Guess I'm putting the Bower/Leahy into commission sooner than I thought. We shall see!

The show yesterday was wonderful-
I did not get to speak to as many as i woulda liked and even missed the pic...

I volunteered my services to help the hosting club out in the concessions...well, it was going to be a poundcake donation...but Carol needed HELP!!!..so I was there for about 5 hours... It's hard for the groups to get all of it going and many show birds themselves...Most clubs serve food as a courtesy and make very little, but any profit goes back to the group...so by all means support the sponsoring club by patronizing the food and raffle tables! (AND for any that happened through the concessions...I HAVE NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE IN FAST FOOD SERVICE-as i'm sure it was apparent!!!)
lol.png
But i do make a pretty mean pound cake;)

Folks yesterday were patient and extra helpful...I think most were just happy to have some time seeing their friends and spending family time after a dread of a winter!

As i was leaving and getting my own birds boxed and returned to the car...uphill....further than i remember parking...with an armload of chickens...a SUPER NICE guy put his things in his car and came back and helped me carry my boxes!!! WOw!!!

OH!!!! AND a near TRAGEDY my daughter LOST her LUCKY necklace that she usually wears to the shows....(a cheap costume necklace from the 70s...that belonged to my mother that passed away when i was a child...it had been repaired at the jeweler twice and link is broken again so she carried it in her pocket) Seems it dropped out at some point...

AFTER MUCH EMOTIONAL TURMOIL....WE LOOKED ALLLLLLL OVER (Matt can vouch for that!)...nothing...even had a teary breakdown at the car...

I explained to her that it was just a "thing"...sometimes these things happen...she was so hurt and angry at herself...

In desperation I scribbled a LOST sign for the main doorway on a composition paper and taped it to the front building door...IF FOUND RETURN TO CONCESSIONS PLEEEEZE....REWARD!!!!! In an hour or so a man came forward and asked about a reward for the lost necklace and brought it forth from his pocket...He had found it on the ground...I JUMPED OVER and THREW MY HANDS AROUND HIS NECK LIKE A CRAZY PERSON!!!!
Now...that reward...NAME YOUR PRICE....!!! "AW, nothin'" he said....
I found it the least i could do to hand him a slab of chocolate poundcake.
