I wish people would be more considerate...especially here on BYC. I'd offer you some...but as you can tell, I don't have anything to offer!!
lau.gif
I'll just have to take some of your next hatch off your hands so you can do another round!!

Good news for you, I have kept back three of my cuckoo, the rooster is coming in a gorgeous gold and I believe so are the girls! All are french and the girls should start laying soon. Soooo I will have eggs available and from a pen that I know what's in it.

I know about boys-boys-boys. Seems like that's all I've hatched for a long time now. Out of my cuckoo hatch of 11, well 7 of those were boys.

I just gave away 8 bantam boys last week and have plenty more in grow out pens and the brooders.

I have no idea what the sex of any of the 7 are!! LOL...the BYC'er isn't confident in his ability to sex the chickens...so we'll find out...eventually!!

I'm sure once one starts to crow...I might have an idea by then!!

Wouldn't it be so very nice if everything is as it is represented to be???? I made the mistake of bidding/buying eggs one time.....and only one time..... online. Paid $53 for 9 araucana eggs. The seller said they where rumpless full size araucana and had a 90+ % fertility rate. Turned out she had fertility problems with her full sized roo and sent bantom eggs instead that were NOT fertile. Out of 9 eggs only 3 developed and only one hatched. Only good thing is that one is a hen and rumpless......but a bantom. Some sellers just don't care if they fudge the details a bit.

Good luck to all on those eggs and chicks hope you have a great hatch

Hello my NC neighbors! I'm brand new to the chicken raising side of life, but I'm in with both feet! I'm about 20 miles North of Charlotte in the North end of Mecklenburg County. My wife and I had planned on raising a few chickens, and had purchased two mobile houses. Our neighbor has hatched some Barred Rocks for us as a project for her elementary school students and the little peeps should be coming to their new home around Easter. In the mean time (this past Saturday) as money continues to tighten in our house, talk turned to eggs. My wife informed me that since the Local Market hadn't started being open every weekend yet, she had been paying about $5 per dozen for organic eggs.......as of 1 o'clock this past Saturday we are the proud parents of 3 Golden Comet Hens! We have gotten 2 eggs so far, one on Sunday and one today(tuesday).

Now here is my first of many questions to come....

About how long does it take for a hen to acclimate to their new arrangements? As I talked to them today I made it clear that only one of them seems to be pulling her production weight. LOL! I told them just to relax and not worry about catching up from their 3 egg deficit for 2 of them and the 1 egg for the other that I didn't get on monday......just take it easy and not worry about making it up to me until next week......I want some good organic egg salad for Easter!

Next, do y'all name your Hens? I've been kicking around Henny Penny for the biggest, and Goldy Locks for the one with the Blonde at the base of her neck..... the third one has me stumped because she doesn't have any features that just jump out......that one might be "Fred".......

Good evening everyone! Hope you're all well.

Bhep - so sorry about your chicks! That is no good. Have you left negative feedback or contacted them about it??

EFudd! Congrats on your new additions! I hope they start laying all the eggs you can handle. And I definitely think you should give them names!

My mind is not so much on chickens today. My littlest bambino will have to celebrate his 6 month birthday having surgery in the morning. He is sleeping peacefully now but the first time he wakes up and realizes I'm not able to feed him things are quickly going to get ugly. Oh my poor little baby! It is just minor surgery on his tongue and he should be fine, but I am sick with worry about it. Please wish my little guy luck!

The chicks are doing great and I just love seeing their little feathers come in. They are sweet little boogers. A few pics because of course I have hundreds!

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!!

EFudd!! I am new to chickens myself and don't even get mine until FRIDAY. I do with you the best of luck with everything. You have a wealth of knowledge at your fingertips, so I am sure someone here will be able to help you!! Congratulations on the new ladies!!

I am so sorry your little guy has to go through this!! I will be praying for him. Even though it's a "little" surgery, it's still surgery!! Try to be strong mama, so he can pull strength from you. If he senses you are scared/nervous...it will only add to his own discomfort. Sadly our babies can read us like an open book!!

Praying everything goes smoothly and he's a trooper!!

Now....you just HAD to show us cute fluffy pictures, didn't you??
droolin.gif
. I don't know what kind they are, but I adore the tan (or brown, whatever you want to call them) with the black stripe on their back...SO CUTE!! Haha...and I LOVE the black one with the white bum...haha. Is the "white" one a Silkie? It looked to me to have a Silkie look...but then again, I don't know a thing!!

Chicken count-down: the chickens arrive in TWO MORE DAYS!!

AHHHHH!!!! Am I ready? What am I forgetting?
wee.gif
I'm excited, but NERVOUS. What if I mess up? What if I do something wrong?

I feel more anxious than I did going into labor with our DD!! At least I knew that "instincts" would kick in and I'd have a clue at times...here, I am CLUELESS. I guess I'd better spend more time stalking the raising chicks thread than the EMU's thread. Speaking of Emu's...has anyone heard from EM? I know she re-homed her emu's but I thought she still had 2 in the bator that some reckless kid knocked over. Just wondering how her hatch went and how she was doing.

Have a great Wednesday everyone!!
