Hey glad to hear you got power citm, I hope your little chick perks up, do you have the save -a-chick? you can get it at TSC, mix it with water. as far as poop I've never hatched in a bator so can't answer that one. But I have seen where people put sand in the brooder to help with pasting. might be worth a try. I'm sure BHep or HT will be on later and can answer those questions. All the best. Trish

Well we maded it through the storm in the camp trailer. The animals were freaking alittle and I had to make a nuk with a towel and put Wima in while holding her in my hands...she was upset with the noise of the storm on the trailer roof. it started about 7:30 there and by 9:00 power was out and all was quiet. Storm passed through. We did have a good leak start in the sunroom roof that could have been some bad damage but we were able to control it. I was watching my girls on my ipcams and saw the weather changing so I called my chicken sitter to go up and put the girls in with food and water in the sleep coop. My neigbhor built it for me and it is probably safe than my house. I love my ipcams because I was able to see my babies were okay. We got home Sunday morning to just tree branches down and stuff that blew in...no other damgage. Well there was the squiral floating in the pool. Guess he was not heavy enough to stay in the tree. You would think that all the food he eats from the chicken pen he would have been anchored good.

Thank God. Went to bed early last night. Much to catch up on here you guys were all very busy. Well time to tend to some critters. By for now.

I'm so glad everyone seems to be okay!!!

My chicks are doing great! Another blue baby just hatched and 3 more pipped. 1 is mostly unzipped but there's some blood!

I've read about them pipping a blood vessel - is there anything I should do???? Poor little things! 1 of the eggs in there I'm not expecting to hatch - I think it quit a week ago or so, but since I'm a newbie I thought I better stick it in just in case. So that just leaves one more left to pip!!!! I was so worried!! I hope all of them make it out ok!

ChickenintheMeadow - I followed MattinNC's advice and gave my babies ground up rolled oats. That and sand are the only treats they get, but so far they haven't had any poopy problems. May be worth a shot?? Good luck!!!

Sheba will let you know when she is through sitting on the eggs Gavin& Allison, 3 of my broody's eggs didn't hatch and she just rolled them to the front when she was ready to give up. It was 2 days after the first 2 hatched. Hope they hatch for ya..

Good evening everyone! I hope everyone is drying off from the storm and didn't get blown away.

I have some egg questions. My three ladies have laid 7 eggs in 9 days. I am pretty sure that all 3 aren't laying but I can't tell which ones are laying (possibly only 1 is laying would be my guess, but I don't know for sure). I did read that Layena will cause Kidney damage if the hens aren't laying......the guy I bought them from told me they were young, but they were laying. With all that said, should I be worried about the 2 that may not be laying? On saturday I did start putting in some flax seed and bread scraps and some veggies that my twins didn't eat ( my wife barely blanches them for the babies....my greenbeans need to be salted and cooked half to death!) Some of the bread I had also coated with olive oil to maybe help loosen things up a little ( plus I like some olive oil and balsamic vinegar on my bread too). What should I do about the feeding and what should I be looking for?

The running poop may just be from stress. The others had great advice. Rolled oat or the vitaman water. There is a thread on her somewhere that explains and shows pictures of the normal & abnormal poop. It is normal to have a running poop every 5th-6th poop or something like that. Search poop, you should find it ..

BHep, thanks for the info! I just needed to hear from someone else because I didn't want them to kill over. The whole "kidney failure" I had read about was a little unsettling. I wonder if an evening glass of wine might help them relax.....maybe that and a little Al Green or Marvin Gaye...that should get them in the egg laying mood! LOL!

oh an EFudd, you can also feed Purina Flock raiser to them and just offer oyster shell on the side if your concerned about too much calcium. if you offer the os on the side they will only take as much as they need. thats how I do it. and all ages can eat it. FR that is.
