Help! My first injury! One of the Welsummers, the suspected other boy, has a little chip in his beak and it is slightly out of allignment. I've tried searching through beak injuries but no help so far. Thought you guys might know what to do. I watched him eat and drink and he's acting fine, but what in the world! Could it be from pecking a rock or something? Will it fix itself or is there something I need to do. He is not a very friendly guy so it's not too easy to get but so close without upsetting him. I need to find some batteries for my camera and I'll try and get a pic. Any advice!?

**Ok, after going back and looking at pics I think he's always had a slight cross beak. Dope! So I guess it sounds like a little chipped beak is pretty common and not a big deal. Right??? I hope so! Wphew!

Green sounds like infection, did she get bit??

does sound like it could be infection, does she have broken skin anywhere? Bad smell coing from it? Bruising can go through a green and yellow stage, but the injury is still preety new for that I would think.

Pictures if you can get some? Iwill pm you my number.

I will get some pictures, she has about a half and inch cut right above her foot/toes. Her leg above the cut is a little green. I cleaned the cut and used hydrogen peroxide as well.

My first guess would be infection, do you have her on some antibiotics? If not start some asap. Not exactly sure what they recommend to fight the infection directly in the wound but hopefully you can ask an expert on here and soon. The sooner the better!!

No I don't have her on any antibiotics yet. Where do I get them and what kind do I get for her?

Thanks Everyone for the help

I would put her on some duramycin/teramycin powder in her water, you should be able to get that at TSC or any feed store. I would probably even give her some in a syringe by mouth just to get her boosted and she may start to feel ill soon as the infection sets in and may not want to eat and drink as much.

Once on the AB's you can use triple antibiotic ointment( name brand neomyicin but generic is just fine be sure that it isn't the Pain Reliever type with a "caine" in it. on the wound before wrapping.
