for your hens and I hope you can figure out a way to keep them safe from the bear.

Well.... I suppose it will be another boiling hot day

I really do not like this. I hope this is not a preview of the whole summer

I have Guineas hatching ...I hatched these for someone and get to keep 1/2. There are 23/38 out so far

NH, although my handwriting is "decent", my "cakewriting" is down right horrible. Don't write in red on a white cake! According to my husband it was a day for back-handed compliments. "At least the cake tastes great", meaning it looked BAD. Contrasting it to the James the Train cake (friend of Thomas the Tank Engine) which was awesome did not help the writing cake!

Later I saw a way around it: Make a scroll! Leave plenty of space on top of cake to place the scroll. Station sugar cubes to keep paper from contacting icing. I think most people can handwrite better than cakewrite! It would be neat to see a scroll stand out of royal icing or Wilton's Snow-white Buttercream. Remove the scroll prior to cutting and the recipient has a keepsake!

Think of all the different candies you could use to prop up the scroll! M&Ms, peppermint patties, caramels, etc.

Now I want candy! Here's hoping this helps.

Well, my 8 week old chicks are showing NO roo signs. No big flaming red combs or wattles and I'd think they'd have it by now if they were roos. So, folks, this is what I'm looking for.

A well mannered buff orpington or speckled sussex roo. I'm thinking a year or less in age (unless some of you more experienced folks think a slightly older roo would be better). I live in Benson NC, right near I-95 and I-40 and don't think I could drive more than an hour to an hour and a half to pick up the lucky boy who will be added to my flock of 10 hens. I'd prefer a NPIP bird if possible. Obviously healthy is a requirement and one whose progeny would be a credit to their breed if some chicks happened to come of this. Gavin, if your birds are still available and we can happen to work out the drive or something, I wouldn't mind it. But you're a bit far from me.

Thank you everyone for your kind compliments on the cakes. I must say my DH thoroughly eating the chocolate relief carving he did as well as a LARGE slice of cake. Sadly there is milk in the cake so DD and I were exempt!!

so unfair....would be nice to know just how I had done.

or maybe not!!

GGCM - I LOVE that idea...I may have to work on doing that!! Especially writing on a scroll with some elegant calligraphy!! Hmmm...now my mind is turning. I am honestly praying once I do the wedding cake, that I will be DONE. I just can't manage all the time while DD is demanding so much attention. It would be different if she was old enough to feed/entertain herself, but until then...I may have to "retire"...lol

Chicken...I'd offer you one of our roos (they came from Gavin's group) but the black one is a bit aggressive (we're going to see if getting more girls helps, if not...

) and the Lavender one is very slow to develop, so I am not sure what his temperament is. As for Jeremy Fisher, my BO roo...he's my FAVORITE

and must say here!! I only have 7 all together so I am not NPIP tested either!!

Good luck on finding one!!

EM- I think my DH would take a leg!!

Thanks everyone!
They are both doing good and seem to feel a little today. I have a question, do I need to make a new batch of antibiotic/water every day?

Thank You

Sorry...no pictures

I can take them, download them to the PC, but not to BYC. My internet has been real REAL bad. I have NO SERVICE most of the day and if I have service it is slower the mud.

I am at my wits end with it.

I will take my laptop over to the library Mon. and post pics.

I had a snake eat 3 of my broody eggs, the stinker couldn't fit the peacock egg. She was napping in the broody box and the hen and one of my roosters were just standing guard

So the snake took a hike to the back end of the property. I am sure she will make her way back, then she goes on a car ride. I really don't mine the snake if she eats the mice, but now I will worry about the chicks.
