I had posted a pic of Tillie Millie on fbook after her bath the other day, and one of my non BYC chicken friends told me that. I didn't think it was true either but wanted to ask. Plus she seems fine...she was a riot last night when I took her out to potty....she was singing her egg song, and the lav. Roo from you was copying her. Lol

Good Monday Morning everyone!!

So, anyone else experiencing a laying freeze? I went from 6 eggs/ day down to 2. I even locked them up for an entire day thinking they might be laying in the woods or something and still only 2 eggs!!
hu.gif
Just thought some of you might have a clue, because I don't!! I am WAITING (rather impatiently) for the installers to come and FINALLY hook up my dishwasher. Yes, the same dishwasher I ordered over 3 weeks ago was finally delivered on Saturday and sometime between 10-2 today they will be stopping by to install it.

3 weeks to wait then forced to wait until a MONDAY.

I am so bad at learning patience!! Today is a cuddle with the wee one and cook pumpkin (DH is still trying to talk me into a pie, but you all got me craving either cake or bread!!

). DD was running in the house (can you really call it running?? she's 15mo

) and despite being told not to, she turned the corner and took off again, only to fall and kiss the ground.

Now she has a fat (was bloody) lip and a bruised cheek. My wonderful mothering moment: "Well, that's what happens when you run and you were told not to!!" Ever have one of those "OH MY WORD, I HAVE TURNED INTO MY MOTHER" moments?? I just did!!
hide.gif
OOHH...wish me luck, trying to talk DH into taking DD and I to the fair...I mean we can't live THIS CLOSE and NOT go, right?!? It would be our first time going to a state fair, let alone NC State Fair!! I think he wants to keep me away so I don't see all of the chickens!!

Have a great day everyone!!

Not as much daylight and cooler weather will slow them down a bit. I have been getting around 5 to 6 a day for the past week. Some will probably keep laying through winter but most shut down till spring. Oh sorry about DD but you did tell her lol and yes many moments when I saw myself as my mom.

Advice needed, guys.

My husband and I got a young pair of chickens from the Wicked Chicken auction they have down near Clayton about two Sundays ago. We didn't notice until we got home that they appeared "off". They were eating well, but literally seemed to be off balance and one was trying to breath by mouth.. We kept them separate from the flock after bringing them home and continued to keep an eye on them. I stopped by TSC to get advice on treatments Saturday. They were out of the antibiotics, so I decided to wait until today. Needless to say, they were both dead when I got home that afternoon. We had them for two weeks. I had one of my flock (a "special needs" chicken) come down with somethng similar to a cold while we had the other two. I don't know if it was contracted from them. Because that chicken already had some difficulties, and combined with the illness, we culled it this weekend. I'm just so worried about another one coming down with something now. Everyone appears fine. I have some antibiotics on hand if I need them again in the future now.

Is there anything I can do other than sit and watch carefully?

It does make me upset that someone put those two birds in the auction because it would have been clear that they weren't healthy and risked exposure to all of the other birds..

I don't think I will get any birds form the auction again. I may go just to look at eggs or equipment, but may try to find birds locally. I just ordered my first incubator and would liek to try my hand at hatching my own.

Oh no, Ally! I'm so sorry that happened! Saying a prayer for the rest of your flock!!!

I haven't had to deal with any illness yet luckilly (knock on wood) so I'm no help. But it sounds like you're ready and did everything you could.
