NewHomesteader,

I bet it would work just the same, but have you ever found fresh passion fruits here? I never see them! You may find a less sugary one on the hispanic foods aisle, though...

I hope you have a great pregnancy! We have a 4 year old boy who was a surprise. I never thought I wanted children, but am glad someone else had other plans for me!

Here I am with our son, Mateus!

NH- if you have a Nature store (we have Natures Own) you might find passion fruit there! or even a "fresh market" (the store).. Harris teeter is a possibility as well.. check where you would locate the plantains and other "exotic" fruits Usually around the general area of blueberries and strawberries.

I am so tired of this rain!
he.gif
I am bored to tears!
hit.gif
My son and I have been cooking ALL day because of the pure fact that I am bored. We have made Caramel Popcorn in honor of the month of October
ya.gif
I love
love.gif
this time of year! also made something called a Chocolate Chess Pie
droolin.gif
(which seems like a custard pie just chocolate), made granola, black bean Hummis.... and the list is slowly getting longer.. The darling Husband is out of town and the DS (2 yrs) and I cannot find anything to do in this weather
sad.png

The chickens
D.gif
- I have been getting at least 5 eggs a day this last week which has been truly wonderful.. but now I have to either eat them, incubate them or keep in baking
hide.gif
... with 27 hens (no idea who is laying!) and only 1 "fertile" rooster have no way of knowing whether my eggs would be viable candidates for incubation
tongue.gif
Not to mention the lack of an incubator
idunno.gif
... but Christmas is coming
fl.gif
so maybe the darling husband will get all the hints I have been dropping
gig.gif
who needs another blouse!
duc.gif
I want an incubator! Even with all the rain my silly chickens want to be out free ranging.. so I am letting them.. sky has opened up on them many times and now I am contemplating whether I should screw the heat lamp into the light socket?

Every weekend the last few weekends I have been going to all the little antique shows and "fairs" local to me.. have I mention I LOVE this time of year.. We have had pumpkin pie every week the last 3 weeks and and endless supply of hot chocolate
big_smile.png
Saturday the Village of Pinehurst does its Holly Arts Festival..
bun.gif
cant wait.. first week of November the crown center in Fayetteville has a week long Christmas fair.. the state fair!! Oh how I love the state fair! I am hoping to be able to talk the DH into a "family day" at the state fair.. unfortunately everytime he attends it he ends up sick the following week
barnie.gif
.. thing its gonna be hard to talk him into it this year
sad.png

Its chilly overcast and overall a miserable day today.. think another cup of coffee is in order..

Haha - Just realized that today is only Tuesday, not Wednesday! His bday is on Thursday! Wow, one day I'll have my brain back. <I hope anyway!>

Yummmmm - chess pie is my hubby's fav. His mom makes it but won't give me the recipe - ever. She says that it will die with her. So if any of you have a good chess pie recipe for me I'd love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He loves chocolate chess, too, but "it's not the same". Yea yea, well whatdoya want me to do? I've tried a couple recipes before and they got a big thumbs down.

SJM - EVERYTHING sound delicious!!!!!!!!!!!! I agree that this weather is perfect for cooking and baking!!! Wish I could've joined you today - had other obligations today unfortunately!

First off...what is a Chocolate Chess Pie??
droolin.gif
Sounds delicious!! Secondly...I think I need to move where you are!! There is NOTHING to do around here, except have picnics outside with the chickens - which you can't do in the rain!! I am envious of your baking skills today. All I managed to do was make a quiche for DH's breakfast and make him some dinner (along with DD). This weather makes me want to curl up with a good book in front of the fireplace drinking cup after cup of hot chocolate (dairy free of course...haha). So aside from curling up with a book, the fireplace and the hot chocolate, I did pretty much that...NOTHING!! DD and I played and read, she napped and I sewed. ZZZZZ I'm ready for bed and it's not even 7pm!! LOL
Send DH our way and we'll "drop" hints his way for you as well. Do you have a specific bater you are looking at? If so...perhaps print it off and post it somewhere within eye sight!! I have learned that my DH does NOT do subtle hints, I just have to say ----- is what I'd want for Christmas!! (Although he has me end up buying it, so it rather defeats the purpose of a surprise, but still...)

I STILL have NOT made the pumpkin pie from scratch. I have baked one of the 3 pumpkins, but I am terrified the pie is going to taste horrid and thus can't bring myself to make it.
lau.gif
DH is about dying for it, I guess after my feed run tomorrow I may have to force myself to make it. Either that...or make this Chocolate Chess Pie you keep talking about!! Care to share a recipe?!?
gig.gif
Well, DH is done eating, DD is in bed...time to go work on a quilt!! Have a good evening everyone!!

Here is the website for the Chocolate Chess Pie.. the upside is it uses 4 eggs.. lol..

SCM & NH- We should plan play dates for the kids! My darling little Hunter is 2! We might have to wait until my Hubby fixes my car though
sad.png

NH- My take on this chocolate thing.... I think it is just a chocolate custard pie.. Ingredients dont seem far off from that of a custard
hu.gif
Making pumpkin pie from scratch isnt too hard either.. The only real difference is baking the pumpkin instead of using the can stuff.. Just find yourself a decent recipe and sub the real stuff for the canned
woot.gif
Just slice your pie pumpkin in half.. remove the seeds and pulp and cook till fork tender at 400. allow it to cool and remove it from the skin.. then mash it ready to go into filling
big_smile.png
I've got one more pumpkin on standby that I am contemplating a bread with...
woot.gif

As far as my husband.. you could smack him upside the head with the item and he probably still wouldn't get the hint.
he.gif
stubborn like me. I have taken the specific item approach... I have told him I would like ------ for my birthday...
lau.gif
haven't gotten it yet!
barnie.gif
I think with him it goes in one ear and out the other.. Lots of important business stuff throughout the day
tongue.gif
but I am too hard to shop for
idunno.gif
Maybe I will try taping pictures and descriptions to the office walls..
gig.gif

ML- Can you tell us what this chess pie is? I have never heard of either until I baked the chocolate one today..

Well I was gonna go and purchase a sewing machine until I talked to my mother.. She has one that she purchased a few years back that she has NEVER used! Can you believe that! To have one and never use it!
tongue.gif
Well even though she live about 700 miles away she said to get rid of it she would inquire on the cost of shipping it to me
ya.gif
assuming it doesn't cost more than a brand new one I should have it within the week
bun.gif
Being a stay at home mom it gets quiet when Hunter doesn't want to play with his momma
sad.png

I am ALWAYS around if anyone wants to come and cook with me!
