I am here !

I have been busy, busy building coops. I got 2 complete. 1 will be divided into 2 but for now all the birds are together...not laying yet anyway. Also added a small run to a brooder hutch I have. Added a ramp and the little ones have 2 story home.
smile.png
I want to get everything done before it gets too cold.

My Splash BLRW hen's eggs hatched today. 7 hatched. 1 zipped and died and 1 did not hatch as of lock up time. 3 are NN...
lau.gif
NN /BLRW...should be a sight. Jezzz...that boy gets around.
gig.gif
Anyway, they are cute.

Didn't have too much rain here today.
hu.gif
Overcast and damp.

Set a rat trap tonight in the shed/feed storage room. If I can't catch the snake I will catch the rat. Seen the nasty bugger jumping off a shelf. It needs to go before I have 500 rats.

I saw my Guineas chase off a bunch of crow this afternoon

wow! you have a Chicken Palace, BHep!! is this where all the neighboring chickens go to vacation?
lau.gif
Hoping to have a similar set up once we build!

I am not up on our Chicken abbreviations.. whats the NN? I hope you post some pictures soon!

Here is a pumpkin bread recipe that was posted by a member on BYH. I plan to make it this week I just have to get some eggs (my chickens are too young to lay so I have to make do with store bought eggs). I'll be glad when my chickens are old enough to lay, I can just get what I need from them for my baking!

Pumpkin Bread
By: Ms. Research
2 cups Sugar
3 eggs - beaten
3 1/4 cups flour
1 tsp EACH of baking soda and baking powder
1 tsp cinnamon*
1 tsp nutmeg*
1 tsp cloves (ground)*
2 tsp salt
1 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup of Apple Sauce
1 15 oz can pumpkin
* You can substitute 3 tsp of pumpkin pie spice for these ingredients if you don't have the individual spices seperately.
Combine all ingredients and pour into 2 greased loaf pans.
I always put cup of raisins in for my Stepfather who loved his Pumpkin Bread that way.
350 degrees for oven. Approximately 55 minutes to bake.
10 minutes to prepare (that's what I like).

HenniPenni: Do you mind if I share the Pumpkin Cheesecake with the BYH members. I plan to make it pretty soon, and when I do I was going to take a picture and post it for them. I just thought I would ask permission before sharing the recipe.
smile.png
I will of course give you full credit for the recipe.

Sounds GREAT to me!! DD is 15 months old now and I think she gets bored with just her momma to play with. Somehow I don't think that in April she will be too excited about the new one that will be "taking her place" as the center of the universe (or at least the center of mommy & daddy's attention). Good luck getting SCM on board...she is one BUSY cookie!! I've been trying for months to "accidentally" run into her when picking up my feed in Cary & I fail each time!!

clap.gif
Yay for a sewing machine!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE mine (but it was a wedding present from my daddy!!
love.gif
) and have used it so much!! I need to drive out to Benson to have it serviced but I'd hate to take DD out that far. Maybe I will convince DH to take a day off of work and go with me?!?
gig.gif
YEAH RIGHT!! Mine was a floor model and has "issues" from being used so I can only imagine what a new one still in the box would be like.
droolin.gif
I think I am envious!! If you ever need some kid patterns (if you want to make play clothes or costumes or such) let me know. I currently have about 1000!!
hide.gif
I use to (when I was a teacher) be the head of the theatre department and rather than do tech work, I did the costumes!!
big_smile.png
My excuse was I can run a sewing machine but not a drill!! (It was only a partial lie...so shhhh!!) I don't have many boy patterns (to be honest there aren't many boy patterns on the market) but I do have costume patterns which could be fun...he could have a pirate day (do you know in September there is a National Talk Like a Pirate Day??
big_smile.png
). Just an offer!! Wow...talk about a babbler...I'm going to use the excuse I didn't sleep much and I am SEARCHING out some passion fruit juice!!
Always around huh?? Seems like there are a few of us SAHM...
smile.png
Now I don't feel as if I am ALONE in my solitude!!
hugs.gif

BHep -
fl.gif
good luck catching that "mouse" or snake!! Maybe one of the guineas ATE the snake??
gig.gif
Okay, I was trying. Can't wait to see the photos of what you've been able to do!! Did the guy FINALLY come and clean out the coops back there or are you just doing it yourself? LOL...that buzzard of yours certainly gets around....are you SURE it's not a bantam turkey?!? I think EM might want it if he is!!
gig.gif

Speaking of Em....Anyone know how EM is doing?? Haven't heard from her in a bit....just curious! If you're out there reading this...
frow.gif
Em!!

Today seems like it's going to be just another day. Heading out to pick up some chicken feed (stupid drive to Cary....2 hours trapped in a car with DD who suddenly HATES car rides...not fun), do some sewing
big_smile.png
big_smile.png
- MAYBE actually make a pumpkin pie then church. Even though the calendar isn't full...it seems like it!!
lau.gif
Have a great day everyone!!

lau.gif

2 hrs for the feed store!? Holy Toledo!
th.gif
mine is literally 2 minutes down the road. Do you not have one in your area or do you prefer the one that is 2 hrs away..
hide.gif
I wouldn't want to drive that far

Oh you have no idea how excited I am for this silly sewing machine. My Mama was supposed to call me yesterday with all the details and whether it was cost effective to send. I didn't hear from her and it is taking every ounce of my being to not pick up the phone and start harassing her!
smack.gif
She had told me all of this on Saturday after I had mentioned the conversation about a sewing machine with my DH. "oh don't do that!" she says "I have one that might as well be brand new! I have only used it 3 times in 7 years!" Now I have NEVER sewed a stitch in my life
gig.gif
but I have watched people and have a friend in fayetteville that would love to teach me (she had all boys hence the need to teach someone)

I just want to do something functional with my time.. Crocheting (although fun) takes way too much time to get to the finished product but I guess that would be ALL projects and I just have to learn to have patients! I am currently working on a granny square market bag. We'll see how well that works out! I have a ridiculous amount of yarn my mama sent me home with when I went for a visit.
gig.gif
my husband hated her for that! We trip over all this unused yarn daily. The same friend in Fayetteville is teaching me how to mosaic
ya.gif
and will eventually teach me the art of stained glass
bun.gif
gotta start doing something other than baking if I am ever going to rest my post pregnancy weight loss goals!
idunno.gif

BHEP- those are the cutest/ugliest birds I have ever seen! we should knit them some scarves for the winter! I love love love the silkie! she is so pretty!!! The white one behind her is pretty too! I want silkies eventually but I should wait till I have a better set up where I can separate my "big" girls from the silkies.

SJM - Lol...are you SURE you don't want to come over and make the pie?? LOL I HATE making pies - maybe that's because I don't like pie....who knows!! To be technical (which I rarely am) the feed is only a 45 ish minute drive - depending on traffic. This is a special "local" feed company that allows you to purchase organic, non-GMO, soy-free (DD has an allergy to soy...among other things) chicken feed. Since our chickens are also our breakfast makers and possibly our dinners, we had to make sure the feed was soy free and unless you have a local mill that will do the work for you, this is the best option we have. They drive to Cary on the 2nd Wednesday of every month to deliver feed to the Raleigh area, so it's a lot cheaper than having the feed shipped!!
he.gif
All in all for a 50# bag, I don't pay much more than I would had I bought the "regular" feed from the nearby TSC (unless you factor in gas for my gas guzzling suv!!) Needless to say, DD is WORTH IT!!
big_smile.png

How sweet that you have someone nearby to "teach you the ropes"!! I am self taught and find it fun now that my mother is attempting to learn to sew!! She Skypes me to literally SHOW me the directions and asks me what they mean!!
lau.gif
She claims directions are NEVER written for a lefty to understand them.
hu.gif
I don't get it since I too am a lefty, but I let her have that one!!
smile.png
My MIL tried to teach me to make granny squares, but I soon learned I would rather sit and sew an outfit that will be completed in a day or two than to spend weeks on crocheting something that I may never finish!! I only spend weeks on quilts, but that's because I have to!! I am still envious of you...you have a festival near you, a sewing buddy, things to do....yes...jealous!! I am 20 minutes from the nearest "town" and that's not even a town...it's just the grocery store. You know you live in no-man's land when the nearest Walmart is a good 35+ minute drive!!
gig.gif
Still...I get to have oodles of chickens, so I'll take it!!
big_smile.png

lau.gif
BHep - do you think your NN's would wear scarves? Do their little naked necks get cold in the winter?? HOW DO they survive??
wink.png

So while BHep is dealing with a Rodent of Unusual Size (a PB reference just for you Buttercup!!
big_smile.png
) and a snake...I am dealing with ANTS!! Apparently I have a colony living in the WALL?? Set up ant traps last night and DH is calling the pest control guy to come out and investigate.
th.gif
Seriously, we've lived here a YEAR and already we're finding more and more problems!! UGGH!! Well...at least the rain will fill our well, there's something to look forward to!!
smile.png

Gavin - I meant to tell you...I didn't get a chance to use the pepper because our girls MUST have heard us talking...I got 5 eggs last night!!
woot.gif
Although...4/5 eggs were from the Marans (including the Mutant green/brown egg!!) and only 1 was from the Orps.
idunno.gif
I still may try to add some pepper when I fill up their feed tonight!! What do you think?? I'll keep you posted!!
