Question - I've asked before but am still confused. I've read it's dangerous for chicks to get layer feed b/c it has too much calcium. I have chick starter in the brooder box but when mom & babies are out and about they're eating the layer that's out for the rest of the flock. Is this ok? Do I need to be doing something different??

Hope you get feeling better, Bhep! The boys both have colds, too.

Paige'sChickens - I think you are referring to the notifications that someone has replied to the topic you're subscribed to, meaning anytime anyone posts to this thread or any others you have subscribed to you are going to get a notice! Does that help?? Oh, and to find all the threads you've started or posted in you can go to your profile and see your posts!

GoChick - I do like her but it isn't a lie that they are sloooooooooow to mature! She is definitely the smallest of the crew. Let me see if I can find a pic...

This one is kinda old and her beard and muffs have come in a lot more since then. She's a cutie! The shyest of the group, but being smaller she also gets picked on a bit. She cracks me up though with her funny looks as she is ver inquisitive!

Story - I hope today is a better day for you and that you found your coon.

we live 1 mile off of the road down a dirt "path" hidden in the woods, so I suppose I will forgive you for not knowing!!

See, now we MUST have a get together at my house!! I just finished making a big batch of home-made BBQ sauce because DH told our company that's visiting this weekend that I would have BBQ Ribs (and chicken) for them...nothing like advertising my most involved meal!! As if I needed ONE more thing on my plate. Still...

the house smells like BBQ sauce and I LOVE

BBQ sauce. Tomorrow the house should smell like sugar cookies!!

Side question for all the farmers out there: Does anyone know if pig back fat is the same as lard?!? I have an OLD OLD recipe (it's my great great grandmother's recipe) that calls for pig back fat and since I don't have any pigs handy to scrape the fat off of (

sorry) so I was wondering if I went to the store (or the butcher) if I could find it. I know real lard (not fake Crisco stuff) is similar in texture to shortening...would back fat be the same?? I am SO trying to master this recipe!!

I don't know if it's the same, but I do know they sell both at the Piggly Wiggly! The only grocery store that I've seen sell 5 gallon buckets of lard..LOL

Really!!! You have me sitting On the edge of the sink I'm drooling so much! First BBQ and then this unnamed great great grandmother's recipe...Anything containing pig fat is gonna be a hit! Y'all have got to change the subject please. My DW is at work! I am supposed to be good and not eat extra supper...
BBQ : "Holy Smoke" this is the name of the pit crew at my church that has been paying off our (St. Andrews on the Hill Canton, NC) mortgage and feeding tons of folks at all kinds of events, private and public. Did I mention I'm so craving food! Oh my, you ladies are awesome in a funny kinda way!

I think I could really use that ball and chain I saw on craigslist as to hold me to the couch!
