Hi stranger!

Hello Gavin, how are the new chicks doing? Do you have only silkies, or you got some new breeds? I see you are hooked on hatching
wink.png
, it's addictive is in did? I know, I can spend hours on the computer every evening looking at all this different bantam breeds and

, but I give myself the max. no of chickens I should have and I try to stick to it.
My latest ones are d'Anvers from Boggy Bottom Bantams and I just love them. The hens have the sweetest personality.

Arianna,

we now have 4 Barred Rock hens, 3 Buff Orp hens and 2 Buff Orp roo's for eggs, 6 Brahma chicks for eggs, and currently 26 silkies!!!!!! Silkies are black, splash, some white and a pair of Partridge......

Beth,

congrats on your new family addition. It is a wonderful job you do, Allison and I have fostered 3 boys in the past - all babies - and they say you never get babies!!

Thank You.

I fostered when I lived in FL. ALL I had was babies. Well 11 months - 4 years old. Probably had 40-50 little ones over the 4 years time. Took a small break and after 23 month, started fostering again.

First call I got was for a 2 month old.

But a relative was found, don't get me wrong, I love the babies, but I need my sleep and babies especially sick or special needs babies are a lot to take in.

Now that being said..... I will probably get a call to place an infant.

Beth - How wonderful to have a new addition!! I will definitely be praying for the young man to get acquainted and adjusted relatively quickly. I think it takes such a strong person to deal WITH the foster care system!! Let us know if you need anything!!

I am having one of THOSE days
lau.gif
DD is sick and clingy (I intentionally left out the whining
sickbyc.gif
) I think part of it is due to the constant temperature changes but she is also teething - still working on getting her 2 year molars (did I mention she is not even CLOSE to 2 years old yet??) She already has a set of molars, so I can only assume these are what is causing her to drool like Niagara Falls!!

I managed to finish the top of the baby quilt for my pregnant SIL (yay) just in time to work on the binding this weekend so it can be FINISHED before the inlaws get here.

So...you may laugh at me, but any suggestions for a first timer?? This will be my first Thanksgiving with family where I am actually cooking!!
th.gif
I am already overwhelmed, especially since my father in law eats NOTHING when he visits (no joke, he only eats my mother in laws cooking). I ordered a turkey and I am making the rolls that are my G.Great Grandmothers recipe, so that's my plan. I have NO idea how long to thaw a turkey, or how to cook a turkey or even if I have a pan big enough to cook the turkey!!

Well...it's cold out there today!! Try to stay warm everyone!! I'm headed to the kitchen to do some baking/cooking just to warm the house up!!

Looks like there will be a fire in the fireplace tonight!!

if you have a frozen turkey, take it out of the freezer first thing Monday morning, let it sit in your sink all day. Then stick it in the fridge in a pan till Thursday, it will eventually thaw out. Check it Wed. night or really early thursday to make sure its all the way thawed, if not fill the sink with cool-room temp water and let it sit and soak for a couple hours, it definately should be thawed by then. Only thing I do to cook turkey is to get a reynolds turkey oven bag, they are HUGE (should find them where the ziplock bags and stuff are at the grocery) and then throw you a tablespoon of flour in the bag, make sure you remove all the extra stuff from inside the turkey, (bag, neck, sometimes a gravy pack will be inside too) - coat the turkey with butter or oil, I fixed a 'practice' turkey the other day and I mixed seasonings in with my butter, and then brushed it all over the turkey, then placed it in the bag. zip it up, slit a few holes in it, and stuck it in the oven and left it. Go by the instructions on the Reynold's bag's instruction not the turkey bag, the Reynold's instructions are alot more accurate. My turkey Monday was so tender and well cooked (15 lb turkey cooked in about 3 hrs) the legs and wings about fell off of it, and the breast all I had to do was pull up and the whole breast meat came off the breast bone. Was great for sandwiches this week!

Bwahahahahaha the day that turkeys get what's coming to them is almost upon us!
