I have to dust off (literally) and fire up my incubator today. I ordered some eggs that are expected in today or tomorrow. Not that I need a new project but.........................ya know how that goes

So this time I have Lavender Cuckoo Ameraucana Project eggs being mailed. I am crossing my fingers that at least 6 survive to hatch with the temps and shipping this holiday season in the postal service. I think they shoudl be able to be sexed at hatch. They will never be acceoted because of the shank color but they will be great addition to my flock or to my layer pen if they dont' turn out as expected.

Anyone else doing any hatching now or in the near future?

Haha...I remember that last year. It was our first winter here in our new house and we were like oh cool snow!!

DH's work called him several times at the mention of snow and told him if it was too bad he was allowed to work from home...we couldn't understand that. We later learned snow is a "big" thing around here.

Crazy Southerners who can't drive in snow (notice I only referred to those crazy people who can't drive in snow...not the normal people who understand that they cannot drive 80mph in snow/sleet/ice/mixture and expect to stop the same as if it was 65...that's all)!!

When my in-laws came...I think they are responsible for bringing the snow, we ended up getting a foot here and well...I was told that was abnormal too!!

They're from Wisconsin, so they felt right at home - although a little saddened that they couldn't escape the snow!! I just want the weather to make up it's mind as it's reeking havoc on my sinuses. Everyone here (except DH lucky bugger) is sick but I think it's from the constant up and down!! At least the chickens are enjoying the weather, right?!? I am ready for some freezing weather to kill the bugs (we still have gnats flying around everywhere), the bacteria all the stuff that freezing weather does...LOL. Christmas in 10 days...BRING ON THE SNOW!!

Sniff sniff. I guess my little chickies are growing up. Esme the broody left them all alone on the floor last night to go up on the roost! They looked so cold and pitiful I hated it! But they were fine this morning! So I guess I for one am happy for the warmer weather we're having for their sake! They are just shy of 6 weeks - does that sound about right to you guys???

Good luck with all the hatching out there!!!

Hmmmm. I wonder if I need to switch up the little ladder to make it easier for them.

On another note, Esme has been laying again for a couple of weeks but today I found her beautiful dark brown egg in a nest box full of her underfluff!!!!!!!!!! There is just NO WAY she's trying to go broody again, right!?!?!?

And
