How old do the birds need to be before you have them NPIP tested?

At least 6 months. If the bird is big enough to band they may do it younger. I love the guys that test my birds because they make it fun and it's educational.

I reread some of the posts and I think it might be up to the tester at how young to start testing. You can bring in new birds that aren't tested but you will have to retest your flock. Call the tester first before bringing home untested birds. You don't want to contaminate your flock once tested. NPIP stands for "National Poultry Improvement Plan" if you want to show or travel with your birds you have to be certified. I do it for piece of mind and I'm also licensed to sell my birds. I have it for "just in case" I decided to sell any chickens. I do sell my eggs but it's not nearly enough to claim as a business.

Thanks you. They are my babies. We got the first one almost four years ago. They have the best temperament. They are very loving and sweet, but they will guard you. Granted most things that they guard you from would probably laugh cause they don't get up but to about 10 or 11 lbs.

OMG..... I am a frozen egg here in se NC. Whooosh, I had no idea it was going to be this cold and windy. Guess I should be watching the news once in a while. Climbing back into bed I can do that it's Sunday.

I'm not a cold weather person either. I crawled back in bed and then I realized that I didn't unscrew the hose and turn it off last night. After I recovered from about fainting, I had to go outside and rig up my heat lamp to it before my husband gets up. He had already asked me to do that and I forgot.

Good very chilly morning! Its -5 degrees here and gusting at 50mph, this is what I get for living near a lake. Spent most the night braving the weather to bring jugs of hot water out to the girls. Then our heat system froze up! And the well lines are froze! I love the cold, but only when it stays cold and I can get used to it!

OMG toy australian shepherds?!? I love it so cute!

Thanks for all the NPIP info every one, definitly think I'll get mine tested once these chicks get older!

yes I brought all the waterers in last night to clean them and fill them up so all I had to do was drag them outside this morning.

Wellhouse light went out, but thankfully I checked it last night when I let the dogs out. I live right by Hyco lake and yes the wind chill off the lake makes it SO cold here, especially now that they logged all the trees between my house and part of the lake, ugh.

We only had 14* with wind chill below zero. what a wind we had too, lost power for about 4 hours but thank goodness we have wood heat. Even my heated water buckets had thin sheet of ice on them this morning. It's a balmy 17 now.
