NH, the rescue squad will be AT your house Thursday! LMAO Don't forget to fast whatever rooster/roosters we are processing. Just put them somewhere they can't eat the night before so they will have empty crops and intestines for processing class. :)

Yay for not buying anything!! DH won't let me go for fear that I am going to buy out the place. I told him I just wanted to meet my fellow BYC'ers and experience a WCA, but he's skeptical of my motives! LOL. I think he doesn't trust himself and we'd end up coming home with a bunch of farm animals that we would then have to find a place to house and find a butcher for...yeah, I am an easy scapegoat when you look at it that way!! LOL

Okay BYC'ers...those of you who are experienced with chicken saddles a few questions for you... 1) Can the saddle be of ANY fabric? I'm thinking I have loads of scrap fleece & cotton laying around...didn't want to have to buy fabric if I can use anything. 2) Does anyone know a size comparison for a White Faced Black Spanish and an Orpington?!? I have Jemimah (my alpha and large orpington) and Miss Tiggy-Wiggy (my smaller lav orpington) to make saddles for and the lady that offers the DIY tutorial (and measurements) has a White Faced Black Spanish (never heard of one of those). I was curious as to how they might compare so I would have an idea of whether or not to scale up/down based upon that. I really REALLY don't want to chase down two chickens to measure them...I honestly don't think I'd be able to bend down fast enough to get them!! LOL!! Wish me luck, I am heading into the Tower Dungeon known as the sewing room to locate some fabric and to see if I have any elastic & snaps!! If you don't hear from me by Thursday, send the rescue squad...haha, JK!!

Ruthann,

if i am out that way I will buy but it is too far to drive with current gas prices..........

so, which birds do you intend to cull and process?

Good luck with your pregnancy and all your plans, a shame you live so far away!!

Gavin and Allison.

doubleatraining, I did see you. You're right it was hard to miss your neon coat. The man sitting next to you is a friend of ours. My fiance was sitting next to the man getting all the rabbits. Wonder what he does with them.....of course Easter is coming

Gavin -
We are thinking of getting rid of only ONE of our roosters and while DH thinks the "dumb" one (our wonderfully sweet lav orp) should go, I am thinking we (to be fair) should process the one that is getting beat up all the time (Cotton-tail, the black rooster). It is such a hard decision for us, but aside from eggs, this is one reason we decided to have chickens!!

Who knows...after Thursday, I may end up being a vegetarian!! LOL

For the sake of my DH, I hope not!!

Double T - Thanks for the heads up...I probably would have forgotten!! After all, I was making bread today and completely forgot that I left it in the bread machine....oh say 4 HOURS ago...OOPS. LOL guess it will be very light and airy?!?

Ok... I am feeling a little bit picked on... But, of course I will be there.
Morning everyone...................

Roosters in the house & back porch crowing at 4:15 AM.. Music to my ears.

VFem......yup the 19th, I wrote it on my calender. It should be a nice day, sunny & in the 60s per weather.com. I am sure that forecast will change every 15 minutes.

Here's some pics of my new babies I got on Sunday...
I love the coloring of these Bantams...

The little female duck kept hissing at me while I was trying to take their pics... LoL
But I made her submit to my huggs and petting afterwards... she didn't care for that too much either.

All my bantams are getting brand new coops next week... I am gonna be standing over the hubby's shoulder telling him how to build them... Poor man. I can't wait... they are getting cramped and I want to keep each breed separated.
Anyway.. we will be taking our Pekin duck trio to the auction next week... along with a silverwing old english bantam pair... and a chocolate colored mini rex buck rabbit.
