Ok, off to home depot to get more PLANTS! Having some great success with early corn, sunflowers, pumpkins & greenbeans are up... looks like my cool season stuff has majorly failed on me. Only a handful of carrots came up, rabbits got my cabbage & celery and the peas are being so slow from the heat. So might as well go look for some started herbs and warm season veggies like squash!

Have you already put in corn? I'm trying it for the first time this year, but still have to get the space ready!! Hopefully I can do that AND plant this weekend. I've taken a chance on planting some warm stuff way early, but it has already come up..yellow and zucchini squash, cucumbers.. Snap peas are doing well so far..Lettuce, cabbage and broccoli are perfect, but I planted them last fall!

I planted strawberry roots and they haven't done a thing!

Ally - I have my corn in already (did it a TAD early) and it's already about 6-8" high!! My cold season veggies did not make it past the "heat wave" although my sugar beets (which I use for food coloring and sweetening DD's "treats") seem to be hanging on by a thread. I am jealous that your broccoli and such did so well...you must have a green thumb. Mine I swear is black. LOL. I had watermelon that were already about a foot high when I transplanted them outside...sure enough we had that monsoon of rain and I think it killed them. Good thing I have spares!! LOL.
I have read that you can plant corn at a variety of intervals and most places suggest April 1st as the "big" plant weekend...hope that helps. Best wishes for a successful & bountiful harvest!! Since you're right up the road from me, I'd be happy to share with you any surplus (IF we manage to grow anything...lol)!! We planted a lot of squash & DH is not a fan of it. I was planning on making & freezing some stage 1 & 2 baby foods from it so when little squirt here is ready for that stage, we'd have some...but there's no way I could use nearly as much as we planted!! Just an offer, no pressure (that also assumes things grow better for us this year than last too!!)
Oh, and I may just take you up on the whole labor inducement dance!! Let me tell you, it is definitely more appealing than drinking Castor oil, which I have heard works wonders. LOL. I did find an Amish Midwife recipe that suggests making almond butter (blending raw almonds with castor oil) and mixing it with apricots or peaches (or similarly colored fruit) and then adding a sherbert to the mix and drinking that every 3 hours...I might have to do it JUST for the sherbert!! LOL

We've got peas, potatoes, spinach, lettuce, broccoli and caulifower going well, adn are also looking at putting in summer stuff far earlier than usual. The tent caterpillars are out, and they are my "spring indicator"!

Speaking of Gardens, ours is underway as well. Planted and growing are onion, garlic, dill, spinach, lettuce, cabbage, greens and sugar snap peas. The asparagus is up been eating it raw before it ever makes it in the house!

The rhubarb is coming on strong, could probably make some crisp this weekend.

The dandelions and clover are out so time to get to work on f some jellies, now if the honeysuckle would bloom.

Fun! I love asparagus but have never planted it..

Has anyone grown swiss chard? I got some "bonus" seeds in my order this year and haven't done anything with them.

I forgot to mention that I have garlic that we planted last falls that appears to still be fairing well. Digging it up is one of the things I'm most excited about!

Has anyone got any young hens that are laying (ideally) or will be soon for sale or trade? I'm thinking of adding just a 2-3 to my flock..Nothing too young since I just have one coop/run and the barred rocks are feisty with smaller hens..
