I started looking at places that supply bulk chick starter...and have found nothing less expensive than what I'm getting from TSC. However, TSC does offer a bulk rate of sorts. If you get 20 bags of feed, and they don't have to be the same kind, you get a 5% discount. When I was raising sheep, that was easy to do. I'm not anymore, and haven't done 20 bags of feed in a while. However, if anyone else uses TSC feeds, and wants to go together to load up at some point, I'm all for it. 5% is that much less out of my pocket. Chick starter, layer pellets, oats, all-stock, dog food.....

But not on a rainy day like today.

My son came in from Boone to take me out for Mom's day...and left today with cooler full of home-grown lamb and chicken. They are never too old to take home-grown food, are they?

Ok, so wanna make sure Im getting this straight....I am putting the INJECTABLE Ivomec on the back of the neck on the SKIN and NOT injecting it? Correct? Can anyone confirm the TABLEspoon verses a TEAspoon of the Duramycin per gallon...Ive been told both now....sorry I guess Im just reallllyt hick headed and very nervous over all this.

It IS upsetting when your chickens are sick and some start dying and to top it off, there is alot of opinions but everyone means well. Here is a link about the Duramycin. Also post #2 is answered by BYC member Dawg53. He is my go to person when I have sick chickens. My advice would be to PM him with your chickens symptoms, what you have alsready used and listen to what he says. Hope they get better, if not, you are NOT a bad chicken Mom!

Yes the Ivermectin goes on the skin like dog or cat flea meds.Again ask Dawg53 about that also. He knows alot about parasites, internal and external.

Good Evening folks!! Have a quick chicken question for those of you who have experience with broody hens and mama hens. Is it typical (or usual) for a mama hen with ONE chick to steal eggs (they are marked eggs for one of my two broody hens) from a broody? I have 2 broody hens: a cochin and a Maran and the mama (who happens to be my other cochin) steals the marked eggs daily from the Maran...she usually steals one egg and so I have had to place them under the other broody because I am afraid with her stealing them, they will not hatch. Is this usual behavior? Is there any way to stop it? HAHA, does she just not like my Maran and is "bullying" her?? Thank you in advance for your help!!

A mother hen normally has no interest in eggs. Sounds like your mama has not switched to mother mode and is still trying to set. If she is tending to the chick I would move her and the chick to a new location with food/water, but without a nest and let her make the transition to being a mother.

The chick in question is 5-6 weeks old already, my mama hens start laying again when their chicks get that age. Give her an egg.
