North Carolina

Tonight I go without sleep, and I'm so bored! Thank goodness for my phone! I'm at the hospital and these doctors are taking forever to run tests and xrays! O and the nurse had to try 5 times to get the IV in me, OWW! I usually don't mind needles but that doesn't mean I want to be stabbed repeatedly. And why do I need an IV for broken bones anyways?! O maybe I should tell yall what happened…might make me sound less like a bumbling idiot

so I have an old tree house, high up in a huge tree, and just above it is an old hollow, that a very cranky racoon has made a nest in. Yesterday I set a live trap, and at about 10pm today we caught her(she's pregnant) I let her calm down before attempting to climb up and move the cage. Well at about 11:30pm I went up to get her, to put her in the car and drive her down to the lake to let her go, I got up on the tree house platform and a board snapped, I caught myself and went to stand back up and the support beam snapped and me and half the platform fell about 20ft. So here I lay in the ER with possible, a broken collarbone, broken ribs and a concussion. Bluh! O well could be worse.
Hope all is going well for you! How is the live trap and coon?

Hello Everyone!! Wild - I am so sorry to hear about your accident!! I do hope you are doing better!! Matt - so sorry for your losses. We've lost 2 chicks this year because of predators and that was devistating, I can't imagine how you would feel!!

to you both!!

Hope everyone who went to WCA had a good time. I will anxiously await the results of what everyone came home with!! Today is a rotten day for me. Was up all night with a stomach bug or something...I would say it was because I ate my FIRST steak in over 15 years, but since DH had no effects, I think food poisoning is out...not sure what is wrong, but DD2 and I stayed home and have stayed in bed most of this morning. DH pampered me (he did confess he was hoping the sickness was "morning sickness") - brought me saltines, my laptop and of course our DD2 - everything set up in our guest bedroom because it has a nice view and a TV to kill time. LOL, even when I am sick, I am spoiled!!

For those of you who don't know...HAPPY NATIONAL ICE CREAM DAY!!

Well we went on vacation for 3 days for the 4th and came back to 3 more eggs missing from Maria's clutch leaving 1 egg for her. We left it with her and hoped she would make it to today. We had to stay at my inlaws house this past week because when we came back from our 3 day vacation we discovered the water heater was busted.

DH and FIL got a new one put in yesterday and we just got back home last night. So I've had no internet time for a week and a half. Lots to catch up on now. Well Wednesday when DH went out to feed the chickens he saw that Maria had broken the last egg so he let her back into general population. So no chicks from this broody for us.

I don't know if we did something wrong ourselves or if Maria was just not cut out to be a good hatcher. We will definately think twice about using her again. It's a good thing we got these eggs for free because I'd be realy ticked if I had put money into these and she destroyed them all.

Hazel has started laying again and her chick is on it's own in the flock now. The chick appears to still be a pullet at 5 weeks old.

Hoping I'm right on that.

How Nice,

RF has some real nice looking young stock here, I did't know chickens came in some of those outfits!

It's been another eventful day in the travels.
All day we dodged the rain.....seemed like everytime
we got to what we wanted to see the rain would stop.
We started off with a wonderful pueblo indian ruins
that just happen to have the archiologist there on site to
give us a personal history and tour of the place. We had
stumbled upon the place the day before when we were
returning from the canyon and decided to go back today
to check it out.

Next we visited the meteor crater that is one of the largest......
it was very interesting to learn about it and how it has been
used to train astronauts and test space vehicles as well as
the history of the crater.

Then we were off to the petrified forest and painted desert.
They are called rainbow trees and i must say I do see why.
The colors of the trees is astounding. The kids also got to
see a gecko and a tarantula in the wild......I think that spider
was the high point for them.........

We finally made it to Gallup, NM for the night........not sure what
we will find tomorrow

Hope you are well and have a good day.....
sorry for your losses Matt.
