Big thanks to the langdon's for their hospitality yesterday and showing us all their gorgeous birds! Got home and got the eggs under "little red" and she took right to them. I guess we're gonna have to change her name to "momma red" after this! THANKS AGAIN hope everyone stays cool today 110* heat index! YIKES!

So glad to hear that "little red" or ermm "mama red" accepted her eggs... I figured she'd have no problems sitting on a batch of eggs... I hope she has a great hatch!

Good evening everyone!! I have never been so happy to have my chickens in lockdown!! I was outside getting our diapers off the line when I saw the same grey hawk attacking...the run!! I am SO thankful for the hardware cloth and the secure "footing" that my DH did!! He ran out to "scare" it off, but sadly the hawk was sitting in a tree facing the direction of our neighbor's home and he could not get a shot off to scare it without sending the bullet towards the house. Still, for once my BO Rooster was doing his job and puffed up and was sending the alarm!! I have never been so happy to have them locked up...and I suspect they have never been happier either. Too bad they will not remember this incident in say...5 minutes!! LOL

So glad y'all were there to react. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how we have gotten this far without losing a bird to the family of hawks that have been raised this year on our property. The "babies" (now three or four months old) sit in the tops of the trees while my girls free range in the afternoons, and they call and call. My girls are OBLIVIOUS. The pheasants in their pen freeze and listen....but my hens just keep on pecking, fussing and squabbling....oblivious. I adore them for this, but am frustrated at it at the same time.

I have been off work this week, and have loved being home with my horses and my birds. Love it...wish they laid golden eggs so I could stay home all the time.

Good Morning Everyone! Was running late this morning, and my laptop was acting up, so I had to wait until I got to work to check the forum!

Hubby ended up having meetings all weekend, so we won't get the runs set up like we intended to. I'm bummed.

But, I'll spend the time he's gone lining my chain-link grow-out pen with chicken wire. I've got a couple young ones who shouldn't have graduated yet who are going through. I do intend to come to WCA on Sunday, just to visit with CSB and RF, though. I am bringing nothing and don't intend to go home with anything, either.

Except....DoubleA...if you want me to bring that Marans chick, I will.

Hope everyone has a great day. Oh, and put me on the list for a golden-egg laying chick too, please. In fact, I want two, because if you have only one of anything special, it will die.

Well, had a great visit with Beth and her crew yesterday. Also picked up a sliver lakenvelder hen that she had picked up for me, a big THANKS there.

So it looks like we might have a guinea rustler in the area. I've been in Ohio this last week visiting my parents. Hubby called me this morning to let me know that all of the guineas (and our bonus chicken) disappeared overnight. No signs of predation - just gone. Now, I could see the guineas flying away or taking up residence in the woods behind our house. BUT, the bonus chicken? That doesn't seem as likely.

What do you guys think? One super successful ninja predator, or a no-good guinea rustler?
