Hmmm.. I am wondering the same thing ???? My temps don't drop when I add water.

Does it stay at the lower temp the whole lock down or only when you open the bator to add the water? It should go right back up to temps.
The temp slowly drops as the humidity rises and it always seems to level off right at 95 :idunno? Maybe the humidity is screwing up my thermometer? The temp drop seems to get worse the higher the humidity especially as chicks start to hatch.

And now for your chick fix....here is the first one I can find under the mama!! :) Not sure which parents it belongs to, but it's SO STINKING CUTE!

ETA: Shortly after posting this photo...I had to wrestle one Buff broody off these eggs and out of the broody coop....silly me didn't lock it up tight enough! I will say...That maran is one GOOD mama...she "hid" the chick in her wing (or somewhere) because when I tossed Ol' Buffy out mama stood up, chick in tow and sat back on all of the eggs!!

Now if I could only figure out how to break that buff of eating chicks and being broody!! LOL. Still, watching her make laps around the broody coop trying to find ways in...it IS rather amusing!!

Help!!? I was taking pics for sale birds and realized that this white junk was all over two of my Silkies chins. Is it bugs? If so, whats the best way to get rid of it??

I checked everyone else (vents and crest/chins, big birds and Silkies) and they seem to be the only ones with the problem. i am going out tomorrow and can get whatever I need to fight this then... Just need to know what it is to be able to fix it.
THanks, Lenore

Looks like lice eggs. Sevin dust, and permethrin drops (for horses) or permethrin concentrate (bought in a bottle and mixed to strength) use as a local spray...retreat in 7-10 days to get the bugs that hatch. best to bathe either before first treatment or at 2nd treatment and by hand try to remove as much of the stuff off the feathers as possible or pluck the worst affected feathers out as they are stuck like glue until the feather molts out even after the eggs hatch, the castings are still there.
