North Dakotans UNITE!

Anyone doing some hatching besides jenNDchicks. Nice list by the way. I know what kind of work that takes. Although raising layer is what I do mostly, some chick customers have shown interest in my heritage rhode Island reds for 4-h. I started them from some great breeder stock several years ago . I currently have them in breeding pens with plans to set eggs on Easter weekend but I think the cold weather is hampering the whole operation. Hope it warms soon!

I am originally from Central Oregon but I moved to Montana last January and now I have just moved to North Dakota. I have turkeys, chickens, and ducks but they are all in Montana still waiting for me to come get them. I felt bad moving them in this cold and so decided to wait a week or two until it warms up at least a little!! Hurry up spring.... I am missing my feathered friends!! I am looking for Marans and royal palm turkeys if anyone knows of any around. I just want to add some new lines to my current flocks!

Welcome to ND! What part are you living in? Here's hoping it will warm up that soon... I am getting pretty tired of this white stuff!

NPIP testing... for pullorum/typhoid, not sure if they'll teach blood draws for mycoplasma, this is the first time they are offering the course. I had it in MN before, they did cover the blood draws.

Greetings everyone. How is everyone dealing with all this March snow? My place was doing fine until that beginning of March storm, now I've got deep drifts to walk over just to get to the animals. Did I mention how much my chickens hate the snow, they have stopped going outside completly even though I leave the door open. How is everyone else dealing with the snow?

I posted awhile back and am looking for the couple of people I talked to about getting Silkies chickens in the north western corner of ND. I am from Powers Lake and have a small surplus of silkies. I'd rather sell directly to individuals/families but plan on taking a pen or two to the Rugby small animal auction April 27th. Feel free to message me if your interested.

Happy spring everyone. LOL

Fellow ND members... is anyone else going to be at the Poultry Testing Agent course next week?
Frosty, Where is this course at? Cost? Info? If you take it does that mean you could basically Have NPIP birds if they past the test?

Cam North, I am not up there in the northwest, but I have a daughter who has been begging for a silky. Not too sure I have a space for them yet, but with the warmer weather over the next few days I am hoping my hubs and his dad will be able to start a few coop renovations. I have some changed for the main coop, and I have another little building that needs new hinges on the door to make it safe for the babies that I will be moving in in April, maybe silkies could go in with them.... I will keep you in mind.

Probably too late for you to get into the class this time... it's tomorrow morning in Bismarck. You can have NPIP birds without the course, you just couldn't be a tester. I can give you phone numbers for the ag folks if you want to do that... getting certified doesn't cost anything except the cost to get your birds tested. They would be more than happy to help you out with that.

That is great to know! I don't think I am quite ready to be selling any birds just yet, but I was interested in learning what all goes into it. for the certifying.

Too bad the class is tomorrow. I am too busy to add much else to the calendar this week, but it sure would have been cool to meet you if I could have made arrangements.

I havn't had my chickens long, (Less than a year) but have been toying with the idea of breeding and selling in the future. I have seen the info on the hatchery sites talking about the testing, and I wasn't sure what all went into it, and how one would go about it. I also didn't know that there were people with the ag department that tested birds.

So here is another question... Do you know the regulations in ND for selling or donating eggs? I know there is an inspection for eggs, and that is all I know.
