Ok, with shipped eggs I do open them and set them aircell up in the carton for 12-24 hours. I think I had a batch of mine I left for 2 days waiting for all to get here. They seem to be doing just fine. Some of them were really really dirty, so i did "wash" them under warmer than me temperatures and running water after about 4 hours of adjusting to room temp. Just taking a wet paper towel and trying to wipe as much crud off as I could. Dry them on another paper towel, allow to air dry for another couple hours before putting in incubator. Mark the aircells before putting in the incubator, really helps to know which are loose/detached air cells. I've noticed the washed ones are seeming to do better than the non washed currently. :hu I know it is a big hot button topic for hatchers. But it appears all the big waterfowl hatchers (metzer farms, holderread) wash their eggs with relative success.

thanks, this helps me alot.
Q: do you turn your eggs right away? I have an auto turner, should I turn it on as soon as I set the eggs? I read somewhere that this person did not turn their shippped eggs right away, they waited for 3 or 4 days... have you heard this?
Do you cool your duck eggs (starting on day 7-10) by taking the lid off for up to 30min 1x per day and then lightly spray before putting lid back on and heat on? i did this with my last batch.
I seem to always loose 1/2 my live and viable eggs a day or 2 after i transfer them to my 2nd bator for Lockdown. I am wondering if i should just leave them in the 1st bator? I wash my hands and handle them carefully, they just quit after tansfer?? i cant figure it out??
thanks
P.S. here is a pic of 3 (so far) ducklings that have hatched from my broody ducks out in my duck house.... many more are coming!!

I have not had shipped duck eggs, but I set the chicken eggs, fat end up in a carton for at least a day without turning or tilting. Sally Sunshine has some great information on setting shipped eggs. Look on the Incubating with friends thread at the first post. I think she has links to all the important stuff, including shipped eggs.
thank you I will ck it out

I have one Saipan hatched! There are two others pipped. Can only see two silkie/showgirl pips, but am holding onto hope that the other good looking one catches up. There are three others in there that were iffy going into lockdown, one Saipan and two silkie//sg/
shw
@Hawk12 the two fluffy girls are getting along great with the niederrheiner and Biele's I put them in with.. I took them by my moms on the way home and showed them to her. She was so excited, because they are the color of the one she lost. Made me feel pretty good..
