North Korea video planning on blowing up New York City

Would anyone really miss North Korea? (preemptive strike)

Nobody would mourn their government, but come on, distinguish between that and the people. Their leaders are black-hearted monsters whose only purpose in life is to dominate others. The average North Korean is an oppressed innocent. A nuke or bombing campaign would certainly kill the leaders, but how many innocents would die as well?

LOL, just noticed that the image of the "nuclear" attack was indeed from Modern Warfare 3. For those who don't know, that's from one of the first missions, right after you (singlehandedly, of course) beat off a conventional Russian attack on NYC.

Kinda ironic that it's technically an image of American victory that they used.

No. Preemptive strikes are nothing more than an excuse to be the aggressor in war. It is still criminal. If I did that to my neighbor everyone would see it as a crime so how is the government doing it to another not the same thing? We are better than that.

I'm big time with rebelcowboysb on this one. Unless extreme circumstances, preemptive strike is absolutely the wrong route to take.

If we knew they were planning an attack on one of our allies and could prevent it I think a preemptive attack would be justified. The government is not the same as you and your neighbor. The government is charged with national security and we authorize them by giving them that responsibility otherwise we handicap the government and then really should not give it that responsibility. IMO

Let's get real.

It's a propaganda video for home consumption and probably shown out of context on the internet. North Korea has neither the means nor the intention of sending a shuttle-like space craft to attack New York. If they did, they would hardly publish a mock-up of the event. However, if Western governments frequently rattle their sabres at North Korea and people post on public forums suggesting that a nation of poor and ignorant peasants should be blown to pieces, then expect at least a mickey take like this one.

To get paranoid about such a laughable video is to let some tin pot propagandist win.

I think that the new leadership in the North will soon look for better relationships with other countries. Their main fear is the South Korean government which constantly issues it's own propaganda, believing that if the whatsit hit the fan, the US would back them in a war. If the US backed away from the South and let them all get on with their feud alone, there would be little anti-American propaganda in future. Interference from the West always seems to make matters worse.

So the best thing to do is abandon your friends and allies.

THANK YOU, Rebelcowboysnb.

And Hemet Dennis, an alliance is a two-way relationship. What we have with SKorea is basically a situation where we give them military support for precisely no good reason. They could easily take on their poverty-stricken northern neighbor without our aid. No, really. Compare the economies of the two, and the access to equipment.

The same goes for nearly all of our "allies" - we give them military support, and in return we get... well... sixteen trillion dollars of debt, for one thing.

Thaiturkey, I agree; this ad is an unintentional joke. I thought it was hilarious and rather surreal, and honestly, I don't get why people are freaking out.

I agree with rebelcowboysnb too - probably for the very first time.

NCReb, your summary of the relationship between south Korea and the US is exactly right.

As for abandoning friends and allies, well there are plenty of precedents. Vietnam, Iraq and, soon, Afghanistan, for example. Vietnam did quite well but the other two are disaster areas.
