Sheesh.... I have spent so much time busting waterers.

I also am guaranteed to be without power at least every so often.


I am thinking of trying a new setup for this coming winter that will maybe hold up better than the stuff I used in the past. We shall see.

I've always been curious. How do you get the chickens to drink from a nipple waterer? Do you have to train them?

Mine started a few minutes after putting them in there..Curiosity kill the chicken

....or keeps them watered...Much easier that those gravity waters. And they stay very clean.
Only drawback I see is that if the water get some trash or residue build up the nipple will leak.
I keep several that i just switch out every week.
I have some more nipples if anyone wants some $3 each or 5 for $10. If you wish to try them in some other container .

IF IT DID IT WASN'T FOR LONG..MINE ARE IN BLACK DRAIN PVC 4 INCH PIPE THEN I PUT MY HEAT LAMP NEXT IT. LIKE I SAID I HAVEN'T BEEN THRU THE 40 BELOW WEATHER ....YET?
MY COUP IS NEW WITH 6 INCH WALLS INSULATED AND VAPOR BARRIER...I DID'T WANT FROZEN COMBS AND WATERS TO DEAL WITH ...SO I OVER BUILT .WHICH I FOUND YOU JUST ABOUT CAN NOT DO IN FAIRBANKS....WHEN COME TO COUP BUILDING THAT IS,,THE BIGGEST ISSUE I WILL HAVE IS VENTILATION
I SPENT ABOUT $1000 ON MY COUP. I BUILT WITH THE THOUGHT THAT IF I WAS TO MY RENT OR SELL THIS PLACE..NEW OWNER COULD STILL RAISE DOGS OR GOATS, WHATEVER OR IT COULD BE A STORAGE.

It's about two weeks old healthy and energetic. I'm thinking he is a polish not sure about the sex but I'm not a big fan of those and would rather have something else.
