Ok, heres a question I doubt anyone can answer, but I sure am hoping!
We are looking to add a hen that lays BLUE eggs, (we have two green EE's) and a Maran that lays nice dark eggs. Will sellers in the area be likely to know the colors of the eggs, or have samples? Or will we likely be told 'chances are good?'
and if we find a hen of each specification, will they be pricey? 15.00, or 50.00?
I know Maran eggs go for a really high price, are the hens really high? I just dont want to go with high hopes, and end up being disappointed, I would rather be prepared in advance.
Question. My birds are only vaccinated for Mereks(sp)
Would bringing a bird home from the show put my girls at risk?
Yes, I would quarantine the new bird(s) for 3 weeks.
But I have been told that even then, since mine are not vaccinated for EVERYTHING, if another bird has been, they are carriers and can give my unvaccinated girls what ever the new bird is vaccinated against.
*does that make sense?*
I would LOVE a self blue D Uccle pullet or two. Or a RI Red. But I cant put my girls at risk. As it is no one is going out to see our girls when we return home until they have showered, changed clothes and dipped the soles of their shoes in a bleach wash. Taking no chances. I wouldnt be able to take it if something happened to them because I was careless or something.
I'll be bringing some partridge, and maybe some white, buff, and black, and some PQ self blues.
tykris99, there are usually people who bring young chicks.
chickenpiedpiper, if the bird is already laying, the seller will usually know what color egg the bird lays. You may not be able to find any EEs that lay blue eggs and may need to go with an ameraucana or an araucana. I have an EE x silkie that lays a silkie-sized blue egg, but I haven't decided whether or not I want to sell her yet.
Rhett&SarahsMom, most of the birds at the show are very healthy and it's unlikely that you'll risk bringing anything back to your flock. That being said, it's always best to quarantine any new birds, as well as any brought to exhibit at a show, just to be on the safe side.
Personally I am not picky about breed, I just want some blue eggs to go with my greens and pinks, but I am hoping for full sized. I have too many hens laying little eggs right now!
Do you think birds like I am looking for will be pricey?
We will be stopping by in the morning while on our way up north.
If anyone wants to meet up let me know via PM. I hope to meet a
few fellow BYCers there.

I have hatchery birds vaccinated for Marek's and cocci all living with my home hatched birds and no one is sick or has ever been sick.
I hope that answers your question!
Who else is bringing birds to sell? All I have as extras are true araucana cockerels, my polish cockerel Puff Ball and big EE cockerel. Anyone interested? I will bring them. Puff Ball is a buff laced and is people friendly.
