Northern California Meet Up/Chicken Swap - Sunday October 10th!

I am bringing my mom, who is visiting from Florida. She had a traumatic incident with a out-to-kill-a-toddler chicken on her farm in Wisconsin as a ...toddler and is STILL afraid of them 60+ years later. I hope we can show her the light...

On Sunday would someone please show me the technique (if not the actual, realistically) way to give the Marek's injection to new chicks? I am hoping to get some fertile eggs from y"all next time I have a broody and feel a lesson would be in order. My hubby actually helped me convert an old cabinet turned upside down into an up-down townhouse to increase our chicken space (I guess chicken math is warping his brain as well???!!!). Now my next broody will have a (cupboard) lower apartment and dog cage run all her own for her next family, with loft housing for young hens in the apartment above! My RIR lead hen checked it out when we finished today and thought it was pretty groovy...

What can't you find at the Habitat ReStore???

See Y'all Sunday! Maybe I'll have a broody by then and be begging eggs....

Yup, Marek's vaccination is a breeze, after the first bunch...

The first time I vaccinated I think I was more traumatized over the ordeal than the chicks!

Okaaaaay, I have a question. Still new to this chicken farmin' business, so if the question is dumb please be easy on me.

I have a lovely delaware pullet that is having some problems w/her legs. I'm sure you've seen my posts all over the place. I've checked her up and down for signs on Mareks, but I see nothing that would point to that. Can I bring her with me? Is anyone an expert on this stuff and can maybe look at her? I understand that Mareks can be passed to others so I'm thinking the answer is no, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. I'm still learning this stuff......

I'll check the spreadsheet, but is anyone bringing laying hens for sale?

Ooh ooh and I would LOVE to buy eggs and hatch them but I don't know what I'm doing and would probably mess them up. How does one do this?

You will be able to see my hatching room and I'm happy to tell you about it, but PLEASE do not bring a sick hen to my house, sorry

Oh and since she's got something (don't know what) I definetely will NOT wear coop shoes or any clothes that I've held her with that haven't been washed.

I feel bad now for even asking.....I just wasn't sure!

NO WORRIES, when I first started out I really wasn't in-the-know about that stuff either, so it's just a learning process, no worries at all, I look forward to meeting you on sunday
