Northern California Meet Up/Chicken Swap - Sunday October 10th!

Renee,
Thank you sooooooooooooo much for the recipes. I am eager to try them. So nice chatting with you & your husband. Good luck finding the exact property you hope for & the move.

I didn't know how to find the recipe so had to bug Rob & he lead me to your post...Thanks Rob

I too would like to add a great big Thank You to Cheryl for all her work & willingness to host all of us at her home. I told stories to my family about your chicken palaces & now my daughter is accusing me of trying to keep up with the Jones' ur,,,,,,,, Cohens. I hope to get my chickens set up nicely someday too, but I am such a junk dealer type I will never be so cute & certainly not as orderly. It was just great!!!!1111
So many new faces & names. I wish I had a photographic memory.
And thank you Renee for your great recipes I will see that my friends that carpooled with me get them too.

well everyone I just might be starting to become a breeder, haven't decided what breed yet, but I may be thinning down my current assortment and also the last few hatches I've had

I actually found out we CAN have roosters, the ordinance is just wishy washy, but it says it's fine. Mostly city is concerned about neighbor complaints, so I think I'm ok...

breeds hmmm still thinking about it, this notion just came to me this am...

what do you think would be good?

I say get yourself a Coronation Sussex cockerel and go to town... you've already got those lovely pullets coming in and I promise you those birds would be marketable.

ETA: It's a breed nobody in this area of CA is offering at the moment.

I was thinking that may be a good idea, I actually can add a cockerel to my order. I also have a dozen mix from greenfire farms (paul bradshaw) shipping tomorrow - Jenny is thinking she can put together a nice bunch of buff and silver sussex for me. So I may just focus on a few sussex colors. I really love the buff colors

I'm also thinking possibly - and probably not till I get this whole thing down, but to breed the mille fleur leghorns.

With the Sussex, I would pick one color and concentrate on the variety. If you've already got the Coronation coming your way AND you can easily add a cockerel, then that would be my choice. You wouldn't have to worry about hatching eggs, or raising day olds and you'll have something very special.

As for the MFL, I definitely buy some from you!

So if I were you I would go with the Coronation and the Leghorns! Sounds good to me.

I like that idea too, but the buff sussex have me mesmerized. Also I can't get a response from the only Mille fleur leghorn breeder I know. S&C, they did respond a week ago and now nothing.

I had the same communication problems with S&C. They can't be the only folks with the Leghorns though, I know Sandhill has them too. I'll do some digging, I would like to have some right now too!

At least one, I think the Mille pattern is so pretty.

IF you can't find a source for the MFL then you could always move forward with breeding Coronation and Buff Sussex.

I like diversity though, that's why I chose two completely different breeds. I'm so glad though that you've decided to try and start a breeding program!

I keep my neighbors supplied with eggs and I've never had a complaint, yet...
