Not a good day. All my ducks have prolapsed vents. WHAT DO I DO? Update w/ graphic pics

Good to hear your seeing progress, I can't believe your girls are laying in the dead of winter with it being so cold... I hope Cafe begins to make progress now..

Hopefully with the change in feed, and keeping them covered they'll stop laying for a while. Cafe is not bouncing back like I was hoping she would. I hate to put a time limit on it, but if there is no progress by next weekend I will have to cull her. I am not worried about infection for now because she is on antibiotics but when that is gone I am worried we will start having complications. Oh, she is such a sweet duck.

Thanks for your prayers.

I just wanted to give an update on Ginger and Cafe. I also wanted you all to see what the poor girls, and myself have been dealing with for last two weeks.

Ginger has had a complete recovery, and was put back outside with the rest of the flock last Wednesday. The only thing I have noticed around her vent is this hemorrhoid, like thing. It is on her left side, outside of the vent. I can live with it as long as her vent doesn't pop out again. This is a picture of Ginger's prolapse.

Cafe is still in the house but I plan on putting her out with the flock by Tuesday or Wednesday, if she continues to be prolapse free. You can see in the pictures below just how bad her prolapse was, and how it looks now. She has laid four eggs, and is keeping her vent in. I still can't believe that after keeping these girls in complete darkness that they are still laying. Anyway, Cafe has been a lot of work but it was so worth it. I have been soaking her for two hours, twice a day in a warm tub. Then, I would doctor her bottom every two hours. I started with Prep H, and sugar. I DO NOT RECOMMEND SUGAR! Especially, when their bottom is raw like Cafe's was. Because it is course/gritty it really hurt her, and I knew it right away. She actually cried out and I felt horrible about hurting her. After that one application of sugar I switched to honey. I used Prep H and honey for four days, then I switched to Vaseline and honey. I continued with them for four more days. Two days ago I stopped with the Vaseline, and I am just using honey now. I also stopped treating her every two hours. I am still allowing her in the tub twice a day but only applying the honey after her soak in the tub. Poor Cafe was actually stitched up twice. When her vent popped out with the stitches in place a third time I decided to have the vet remove them, and not restitch her. This picture was taken after the stitches were removed. Notice how hers looked more infected than Gingers.

This picture of Cafe was taken today. Wow, what a difference!

She went a week before she started laying again. She laid two eggs the same day. The two on the left are hers. For whatever reason she laid a XLarge egg, and a fart egg. The fart egg is actually smaller than the my Silver Duckwing OE Bantam egg on the far right. Since she laid these two eggs she has laid two normal size eggs. Thank goodness, I don't want them laying XXLarge eggs anymore.

I think that if this were to happen again I would postpone the trip to the vets. The stitches wouldn't hold the prolapse in, and the vet couldn't make it any tighter for fear they would become egg bound, if an egg needed to pass. Of course, I needed the antibiotics so I would have had to contact him one way or the other. I am not big on using unnecessary medication but I think that the antibiotics kept them from getting infections.

I am not sure if the kegel exercises they would do after I applied the ointments to their vent built muscle back, or what? All I know is that both ducks are doing great. Yeah!

Thanks for all your prayers, thoughts, and concerns.
