Not a predator - rather a killer!

When you do wire repair I would suggest replacing the chicken wire with hardy cloth which is stronger. If the coon really wants to he can rip through chicken wire.

i use welded cattle fence and lashed it together with scrap electric wire from job sites i have for the top a 20ft by 20ft roof made of that aand use a cross shaped 2x4 to hold it up in spots , and thats covered in chicken wire , the holes are 2x4 inches , and if the coon gets threw the chicken wire the cattle fence will stop it

Can you blame me? 3 years ago I lost 11 of my 20 chickens to stupid raccoons.

My poor babies. In 3 nights they were tortured and killed. I bet my chickens when they put themselves to bed at night wondered which ones would be taken that night.

And after I found out 5 days later I only had 1 BR hen, my 2 EE hens, & a RIR hen with her 6 babies. And a couple friends of mine found 9 of the 11 chickens above my coop rotting!!!

They only took 2 of them for food.

I hate those things with a passion.

I still have my BR hen and my 2 EE hens from my original flock. One of my EE hens (Marshmallow) is the 2009 champion hen from the local fair.

I had a similar experience a few years ago,all the animals people have mentioned will do this, but my experience was with a very crafty mink.It took me 2 weeks to finally catch him, lost 12 chickens.I live right on a major river so there is no shortage of mink, coop security is a full time job around here.

Marshmallow is beautiful! Each of my girls (and two boys) is special to me. That one event was enough to make me paranoid. I don't let the sun go down without asking DH if he locked up or asking him if he'd like to take a walk with me. I let the kids out each morning just before I leave for work. He leaves when it is dark, so I get to greet them each morning.
