Not again 😣

Pics
Mine absolutely started eating some cardboard I was using as a divider when I brought them in one of the -40f nights we had over the winter. I would avoid using something with too much ink or anything like that on it, but I think a plain box would be fine.

Wishing you and your girls the best!
I'll definitely use something plain, if they start picking at it I'll have to swap it out for something else...
Thanks for your good wishes

They tried to eat it as babies, especially if it got damp, that's why I worry

You'd think they'd be older and wiser, and not do that now, but you never know with ducks 😂
Anyway, I'll see how we go with it
dry would definitely be harder to eat than damp, lol
They were probably thinking it was some kind of fancy Flatbread

Sprightly is struggling to lay an egg
I just saw her laying by the door, not a normal spot, puffed up and pumping her tail hard

Just gave her as much calcium as I can, she won't take anymore. She's struggling
Not sure if she'll pass it in a minute or if we'll need further advice

She hasn't been laying properly, and last night the shell was very brittle so I'm concerned
My girl gets the bath, the TUMS, the cloaca lube followed by an XL reusable bed pad (for humans) on my bed then gets to lay in my bed with the lights off until she lays. Sometimes this means sleeping with me all night. I put pillows under the pad, making a border/nest, so she can’t poop on my bed. She almost always lays by morning. Something about the dark room seems to be the icing in the cake for her treatment. And also getting to be inside with me. But I have a very unique relationship with my ducks. And my girl who get egg down actually hatched in my hand soap. I’m not sure if this will be good or bad for your girl. It definitely depends on you all’s relationship.

I have a really close relationship with both my girls as well
Dougie partially hatched in my hands, Sprightly I just got to watch through the incubator, but she still also imprinted so we have a good bond

Unfortunately I can't have her in my room, though :(
So far the baths have been working really well for us, but if ever they failed I'd be sure to try the dark method as my next course of action, thank you for sharing your experience :)

I've got her a little nest and some eggs in there with her now
It's worth a shot, hopefully she has the same broody nature as Dougie, just hidden somewhere deep down :fl

My heart can't take it, Dougie hates being in the coop during the day (especially during sunny weather like today) but she has chosen to spend most of her day sitting beside Sprightly inside 🥺
She runs out for food and water, maybe a quick swim, then back in to be with Spry 😭

Maybe Dougie will help Spry find her broody nature. :D
Ducks are happy just being with the flock, and choosing to be still and quiet with your friend is a lot different than having it forced on you.

Did you end up getting to make a vet appt for Spry?
