Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

I tried to order from them, too, but got an error every time I tried to go to the vaccine page! Oh well.
How did giving the vaccine go? Do you just poke it into loose skin behind the neck? I watched a video of someone doing it to chicks.
Did the chicken doctor say how long it might take to show any affect?

I had to call him to complete my order. He said internet explorer usually works, I was using chrome. They have issues with it. I didn't do vaccines yet, I will probably have to wait until tomorrow when I can get some help holding them. It's easy enough on my 2 inside, but the real healthy ones outside will give me a fight, no doubt!

I didn't ask him how long it could take. I wish I didn't have to do all chickens at the same time, I'd do the mareks one now and the rest later.

Big E, your lavender rooster is amazing!! I want one!
Here's a photo of my sick girls. They're both mutts - one a buff orpington mixed with a barred rock mutt (he may have been part EE - she has a really strange comb), the other looks mostly like her black australorp mother with some pretty red feathers from her red rooster grandfather - who brought in the Marek's!
They're both sweet and beautiful to me!

Could that comb look like a Wyandotte comb?

My 2 victims , a roo and a vaccinated hen are still hanging in there. Seems the unvaccinated roo is eating a lot, and my hen looks like she can't find the food. I feel so bad for her.

Can you

Can you just wait til they roost at night? I go in after dark and one by one do whatever task I have with each of my 30+ chickens. I keep it as dark as possible, wear my head lamp and move away with the bird to do what I need, then put them back on ghe roost! I just wormed all my fuzzy butts with ivermec and I had all of them done in 45 minutes! Just over a minute a bird, and also included all my walking between coops.

Goid luck!

I have lost 3 more birds in the last 2 weeks. None of the necropsies show mareks, though they've all but 1 shown the wobbly walking, stepping on their own toes, etc. and the wasting. 2 teenagers and also one older hen that had been vaccinated. She, however showed no symptoms at all, and her necropsy reached no conclusion. How is that possible?

And now another teenager is starting the bad walking. And is thin. I believe this is mareks as I can find nothing else that fits. 4 in two weeks! I'm exhausted and sick.

Will I lose my whole flock? Is it possible that any will survive? I've tried everything on this thread to no avail. I guess I have to mentally prepare for the worst. Does anyone have any survivors?

Was there any improvement after the using Casportpony's Corid dosage? The cocci may be a secondary issue, which doesn't help. You also had blood work done? Did they test for Marek's?

The worst is not knowing what is going on. I am so sorry for what you are going through. IF it is Marek's, I have heard 20%-60% losses, depending on vaccination status. But some breeds are more susceptible than others. I have 3 survivors out of 9, but my rooster is suspect.

I finally got the vaccine yesterday, and administered it fairly easily. ( by the way, Twin cities poultry supply said on my bill "next day shipping", but the package clearly says "two day priority mail" - a real pain to wait around for it all day for nothing)
The results were fairly quick - today the buff mix was dead. And she was the one who was doing really well and I thought for sure would pull through. SHe was walking, though slowly, eating and drinking normally. She just slept much more than normal and sat a lot. The other one is pretty much the same, kind of worse. Not really eating much and nodding off a lot. I keep putting it off, but I will have to put her down soon. I was holding out a scrap of hope for the vaccine. I'm too sick over losing the other one today to deal with it.

Also, it said something on the vaccine along the lines of "do not give to sick (or diseased?) chickens".
It's completely baffling how the healthier hen died and the other is still hanging on.

well that's not good! I was going to do mine today but my husband wasn't home and I need help I suppose. Did you do yours alone?

Now you have me scared to give it to them!

Today, my silkie started having very strange neck issues, her neck was all wacky off to the side and she couldn't straighten it. It only lasted a short while, but I was on the phone calling the humane society to see if they would put her down. It went away so I'm not doing that just yet. This SUCKS!! not knowing what to do, thinking the vaccine might help, now yours dies...
