Check his nostrils also,one of my roosters had funny breathing and a discolored comb,after checking him over i found his nostrils where plugged from sticking his head into his fermented feed(he loves the stuff)after i cleaned the inside of nostrils with a Q-tip,comb immediately resumed normal color and breathing became regular.

If he sounds congested,try steaming him in a bathroom with shower turned on.

Egg, I could give him Tylan, but it's not like he got something contagious. So pen is good for pneumonia, and I thought if he aspirated something, that may be it.

I will have to check his nostrils and mouth in the morning. His crop was empty.

It sounds like a faint wheeze and a click. He was doing his rooster thing with the girls that afternoon.

Wouldn't you know I had a scare this morning. My oldest Polish was back in the weeds laying with her wing out and one leg back. I walked over there and she didn't move. I went to pick her up-one of her toes was stuck under a piece of wire in the ground. How close was I to crying? Really close. She's the one in my avatar.

Seminole, I'm glad your polish girl was okay--you must dream about Mareks at night. I was reading on the different respiratory things, and could only find wheezes instead of rales in ILT, and I'm sure it isn't that. I would look down his throat though for foreign object. Ten Chicks, good suggestion about the nares.

He's looking better today. But walks kindof stiff legged. His nose is clean, I'll continue with the Penicillin

I don't have much experience with URI's, so like already suggested, I would do a thorough exam and get a baseline weight on him.

Has anyone here ever dealt with air sac mites? Been meaning to research that.

I think I found them in my last necropsy...

"Cytodites nudus is a small cosmopolitan mite occasionally noticed as white spots on the bronchi, lungs, air sacs, and abdominal organs of chickens, turkeys, pheasants, pigeons, canaries, and mallards. (Also see Air Sac Mites.) These mites are readily transmissible between birds through coughing. They are rarely found in commercial industries. The 14- to 21-day life cycle involves a larval and two nymphal stages. Infestation densities vary, and clinical signs range from none to weakness, weight loss, pneumonia, peritonitis, pulmonary edema, and death. Recommended treatments include ivermectin, a nearby dichlorvos pest strip (placed out of reach of the birds), topical moxidectin, or a pyrethrin/piperonyl butoxide spray."

My chicks are coming in the morning!

Where are you getting the chicks from? My MM chicks are doing great. They've been in the coop for a couple of months now. I still had my symptomatic cockerel when I moved them in, so they got a virus overload starting out. They are 15 weeks old now.

My two Marek's survivors are 8 months old. Hope they make it.

I tracked them and it said they left the state they are coming from. So I call the post office at 730 this morning. I ask them to hold the chicks and call me. She says they always do. At noon I look at the tracking, and it says out for delivery. So they are trying to get in touch with the carrier

Okay, just got them. 2 DOA. Crevecoeurs. The three left are kind of weaker chicks. Like they act like they were just hatched . So I am getting them to eat and drink. I dipped as many beaks as I could and scattered food on the floor. They are all active.

We have aprons at the door to the spare room. The room has been Lysol-ed twice. The exotic mystery chick is brown or gray with 2 white stripes down the back and feathered legs. It will be fun to guess.

BigE, I got 10 BO's , 5 Houdans, 3 Crevecoeurs (now), and 5 Speckled Sussex. I'm only keeping 8-10. The rest go to the feed store.

Kathy, I never knew that chickens got mites in their lungs.
