Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

I am going to invest in some sort of scale to be able to weigh the chickens. What are you guys using?

Since the mareks diagnosis, I've been doing a lot of tumeric (by a lot, I mean a spice jar in the 12 cups of feed, so maybe that isn't "alot") and garlic weekly. They finishe the 5 day course of corid today, so tomorrow I'll be adding buttermilk, yougurt, and brewers yeast.

Haven't done the cranberries yet....

Seminole, why both sulfid and tylan? thank you for mentioning Jeffers..I think I will order some to have on hand.

I use sulfadimethoxine because it kills cocci and is an antibiotic and kills e.coli. I used Tylan because it was one on the list that I had. They also mention the 'cillins. I guess I was thinking back to a few years ago I had hatched and vaccinated some Polish and 3 dropped dead over night at 8 weeks old, and when I picked them up, blood came running out. I immediately put everyone else on sulfadi. and Tylan and I didn't have any more deaths. I personally think they got entiritis .

I know they say it's a herpes virus, but aside from being tumor causing, Marek's seems more like HIV and AIDS. You can be exposed and carry HIV for years or a lifetime. Or your T cells count decreases until some opportunistic bacterial illnesses kill you. Like pneumonia. Because of your lousy T cell count.

I have not looked in to what boosts the immune system other than garlic. I'll have to do that.

Lala, I got a food scale from amazon and it was cheap. But I haven't figured out how to get a chicken to stand still on it, LOL

@seminolewind , next time you need to weigh one, find a small box or container for them to stand in and do it in a dark room, that's how I do the wiggly ones.

BTW, I "cured" my Marek's hen with worming, tube feeding and vitamins. Just joking, I know she's not cured, far from it, but she is walking again.
