When I brough over the first dozen eggs to my mother she refused to eat them. She said she "knew those chickens" and because I had a roo in the coop with them she felt like "she would be eating their babies"
Needless to say, after I cracked a couple, showed her that they in no way resembled "babies", and fixed them for her, she has wanted my "farm fresh eggs" ever since. She still has a hard time going to the coop and visiting the hens, though. Instead, when she comes, she asks if I'll let the roo out for her to visit. I guess because he doesn't lay the eggs
i dont eat my eggs very often im not a big egg eating person just got some chickens for chicken meat and to watch a mam hen walk around the yard with babys but i do collect them everyday(havent been to good about it the past 2 weeks in ohio trudging through a few feet of snow is hard)i do get them everyday but when theres no snow i go out like every 2-3 hrs and get eggs now i just waite till 2pmish which is when they are usually done feed water everything and get eggs
Ok my biggest issue with my friend is not the fact they don't eat the eggs, I understand some people don't like eggs or can't eat them but to just let them rot in the coop with the chickens is wasteful and not healthy for the flock. When I suggested to her that she could give the eggs to people who are maybe having a rough time she looked at me like I was crazy and then said she wasn't going in to coop to pick up the eggs because it was too dirty!

Tell her to get off her lazy bum and clean the coop! Isn't keeping animals in unsanitary conditions considered cruelty? Maybe you should take those birds off her hands.

That has been my question too!!! I don't understand their way of thinking to be honest. But then what scalds my milk is the fact they keep asking me for hay for their coop but if they are not cleanin an making nest what do they want with the hay??
