So Ive been giving my new birds lots of special care to make sure they are healthy. Ive given them antibiotics, dewormer (wazine) and lots of things like corn on the cob, strawberries and whatever little greens I find left over from dinner. I give them a little bread sometimes too. Dont worry, I am careful not to over feed the treats. lol

Ive already noticed a big difference in the 2 twins. I call them twins because they are both brown and both have no beaks. Their feathers are shinier and they preen more. They seem to be happy so long as the rooster is occupied elsewhere. He seems to be stressing them. He likes to micro manage them lol

My question is, when can I hope to have some eggs? I dont know if the twins are too young or not, or if they are both roos. Im pretty sure that one is a hen, but the rooster always seems to push her around. She cant get much peace with him, it might be preventing her from laying too. Ive got some pictures, one of the twins is much bigger and has a higher crest. The smaller one, who i suspect is a hen has a small crest and smaller stature. The larger of the two is fluffy like I see pictures of hens being, but its fringe is so tall I almost want to say its a roo.

This is of the one I think is a roo, he is bigger. He has just finished a strawberry, thats what the red stuff is. My son named it Crackers.

This next one is of the one I think may be the hen. We named this one Frightful.

Anyone? Any ideas what gender these 2 are and perhaps age? I rescued them so I have no idea the age.

Thanks!

it's the middle of the afternoon in the US, so most people are probably still at work.
To me, they both look like pullets. From their combs and wattles, not ready to lay yet.

I'm sure more knowledgeable people will post when they check out the forums this evening.

Yeah i forget im on the atlantic side of Canada lol. The one bird that has the tall crest is so large, and its crest is so tall, I really wonder if it is a roo, but as I said, it kinda loos like a hen in body. If it really is a roo, Ill have to rehome it because I dont want fights with my Leghorn.

I would say they are both hens. How old are they? Most breeds of chickens start to lay at about 5 to 6 months old.

Im not completely sure of the age. They seem to me about 4 months? Maybe 5? Frightful is really small compared to Crackers. Crackers almost looks as though he/she was born much earlier than Frightful. Someone cut Crackers tail feathers short, I dont know why they did that. Maybe to hide the gender? these people were just out to make a buck on a bird, they didnt care what they sold.

Crackers has started picking on Frightful. They dont roost together any more. In fact none of the birds roost next to eachother. Poor firghtful, so small and unloved by her fellow coop mates :(

I was just out there looking the birds over. Frightful has a dark brown reddish chocolate pooh that is a bit runny. Could that be from the treats, such as corn? Or stress from the other birds giving her a hard time? I looked over the famous poo chart, but it doesnt explain the runny pooh.

Thats a relief to see that they are not roos! When the ladies first met my Leghorn, he bullied the larger one and cuddled the smaller one, but now he doest seem interested in either one except to chase them away from the water and the food.
