Hi all,
I have been a BYC member for a long time but got busy with other things in life and neglected this forum/site. But now the time has come to get back at it so I will reintroduce myself!
I will use the template offered:
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I have had chickens since I was in the 4th grade. When other girls were horse crazy I was dog and poultry crazy. I even wrote my high school term paper on the Chicken and Egg industry ( and got an A+! ).
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? I currently have about 50 chickens and am in the process of increasing my flocks up to previous numbers before I was sidelined by life outside of chickens. But who counts anyway?
(3) What breeds do you have? I have a mixed flock of layers and then I am serious about Wyandottes ( specifically LF Colombian Wyandottes ) and I want to get involved with Silver Penciled Wyandottes and maybe Whites. I also have a couple of Ayam Cemani and some Basque hen chickens. I am an APA member and a member of the Wynadotte Breeders of America, Ayam Cemani Breeders Association and the Colorado Poultry Association. If there was an American Basque Hen club i would love to join that too and be an active member.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? Wow, it's been so long I don't remember how I originally heard about it.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I have been a breeder of Champion Kerry Blue terriers, American Cocker Spaniels, Beagles and English Pointers over a span of 45 years. I am also a semi retired professional handler for AKC dog shows. I also collect cookbooks ( I have more than 1000 ). I am involved with miniatures ( 1:12 scale ) and I also make miniature gardens ( also in 1:12 scale ) with live pants. I do straw bale gardening and am an artist in several mediums.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I have been married to a great guy for 42 years who understands my independence, stubbornness, obsessions and hobbies and supports my efforts in them. I have three grown sons who make me proud of them every day. I have a small farm with poultry ( chickens, turkeys and game birds ), dogs, goats, mini donkeys and one cat. I also have a Parakeet, a Cockatiel and a couple of finches. I still occasionally show dogs for people but am mostly retired now and concentrating on my little farm and am now back at being active with my chickens and hope to start showing them next year.
I hope to make some new acquaintances a maybe a some new friends in the poultry world from this wonderful site!
