Now that my bronchitis has receded to let me get out of bed and move around a little, I enlisted the 16yo, caught the 3-day-old chicks, and inspected their vents.
I *thought* this one had pasty butt, brought her in, and tried to wash it off. It didn't wash and felt hard when I tried to gently pinch it off as I've done before with severe pasty butt.
She squeaked about it. I thought I was pulling on the down so I stopped and decided to keep her in a bin inside for 10-15 minutes while it softened up from being wetting.
To my surprise, she pooped quite normally in her bin.
But she still has the hard, red thing.
What's up?
I put a dab of canola oil around her vent and around the whatever it is just in case it might help.
