My name is Sherry and I'm a new member but don't know where to go to do the introduction. There is so much information and places to click that I feel like I'm going around in circles.
I decided to join because a lot of times when I looked up things on the web about chickens, this site had a lot of information and I thought that I should somehow contribute instead of just looking.
Anyway, I have 17 chickens, three are roosters (!) (one older barred rock, one 6-month old barred rock, one year old silkie), 2 are buff orpingtons who have either retired or are just molting--I got them as adults so not sure of their age-- three are leghorns who keep laying like crazy, one is a little year-old silkie hen that lays quite a bit, one is a six-month old RIR who just started laying, one is a buff orpington who is still laying and six are 2 1/2-month old chicks--two speckled sussex, two chanteclers, 2 silkies, all guaranteed to be hens except maybe not the silkies because they couldn't tell.
I love talking about my chickens and reading about other chickens but spend a lot of time outside with my animals so don't get a lot of time to post. Recently had a sick orpington who I was researching about how to euthanize and after going over and over on this site, I decided to do it finally and when I went in to get her, she had died. So sad but I so appreciated all the information and encouragement on this site.
Some people on this site consider chickens to be livestock and some consider them pets. I'm definitely in that latter category but appreciate all people raising their own chickens. All of my chickens have names and personalities, as do my horses, goats, cats, donkey and dog. And, my patient husband who had chickens as a kid and was afraid of roosters when I first got chickens. He tolerates a lot.
Thank you for the site and even though I don't always comment, I am paying attention. I just don't get on it to write a lot because as you can see, I have a hard time stopping.
