I've seen pics of mites and they this dark red color. Nope wasnt that. This was a longer light brown insect. Mites also rounder I think. Will check them to tonight.

I did read a lady tried what you did and she said it worked. So the wood ash you get from wood your burned right?

Right. We are under a burn ban so I broke the rules and made is small and baby sat it with the water hose near by! We have a fire pit in the back yard.

Carbaryl (Sevin) is no longer approved for poultry in the USA. Use permethrin instead, it also works fine. Mary

Red poultry mites are actually a light grey in color before they feed. Once they've fed and they're full of blood they turn red.

I agree DE and garlic are useless. I tried many different things when I had my first bout with mites and still had mites. I use permethrin. The bonus is there is no egg withdrawal period.
If you have a TSC they carry the permethrin dust, premixed spray bottles and the concentrate.

Did you inspect birds and see lice on them?
If you didn't see them on the birds, do not treat.

If you did see them on the bird, yes, make sure it gets onto their skin.
Treat again in 7 days.

Get some Frontline in the bottle.

Fine for show birds, but I wouldn't use it on food birds(eggs or meat).

I don’t have egg layers and I don’t eat my chickens to tough lol so dont have that problem.

Common sense will tell you that aart, if you don’t like my advice fine but don’t make a big deal over it. I’ve had chickens 37 yrs and I’m 57 yrs old so I just try and pass my knowledge and experiences for others
