None of them are screaming cockerel here but I can't see the wings on 10 at all. 1 has a larger comb, yes, but it isn't red yet and there's no wattle growth. I'd save this pic and compare it against how it looks in two weeks. If it's a cockerel, you should see a color change and wattles while a pullet stays much the same.

ETA: the spot to watch on your black copper chicks (and the blue crossbred) isn't the face as much as the wing. If you see red feathers on the mid wing, it's a cockerel even if the comb hasn't developed yet.

My thoughts exactly. I wing sexed it on day 1 and was 100% pullet wings but im unsure if that kind of cross can even be wing sexed. It acts like a roo to me. Ty for your advice. I will update with sex soon:frow
Nope, that wouldn't be a wing-sexable pairing. There seems to be a lot of misinformation about wing sexing out there. You really have to know what the feathering rate is of both parents -- the male needs to be pure for fast feathering and the female has the delayed feathering trait. Then the delay only passes mother to son. If you think about that, it means that it only works in the F1 generation, just like with red or black sexlinks.

There is so much info out there! I get confused and give up. Thanks so much for all your help. :thumbsup

I have 7 lav orp chicks age 6 weeks. They are being raised by 2 broody hens. Here they are going to bed:

I'm actually hoping to keep a male, but so far none are screaming male. In fact, the best I have are 3 ?s that could go either way. (Hoping at least one is a male.)
They are color coded. I think my best chance for males are purple, blue, & teal.

In the summer, my males dev combs by 4 weeks. By 6 weeks, they were obvious. My theory (or at least my hope) is that the cold weather is slowing their maturity

Blue has tiny, darker pink wattles, but comb is still pale & small

Purple has the largest wattles. They're dropping but there's no comb development yet.

Teal (in middle) also has dropping wattles, but they're very pale.
