Not Sure If You've Got A Pullet Or Cockerel? Click Here! Thread 2

Is it pretty clear that one of my Barnevelders is a he? We had planned to keep a total of 4 (including the 2 hens I already had) but 5 will work, too. I'd like to get him out of the mix sooner rather than later. Re-posting the pictures.

It's not 100% for sure yet, but I would be very surprised if the one with a mostly black chest didn't turn out to be a cockerel.

They're only 2 birds. I just realized I didn't specify. I was trying to show back feather patterns to compare to combs and wattles.
The first two are the same bird and the third and fourth are another bird. The farm store wasn't sure, because they were born free range on the farm. But one of the managers showed me the Welsummer dad and said something else... I swear he said something that sounded like "tree frog," but it was hard to understand with his accent.

Here they were as chicks... The little white one on the left is the chicken in the first two and the little brown one on the right is the one in the last two. Maybe you can tell what breed they are mixed with???

Mystery indeed. I think the second one is a cockerel too but if it's a breed with a huge comb I guess it could be a pullet but likely two cockerels... I think ...
Tree frog hens eh. What type of accent did he have I might be able to figure that out lol

The Buff is pictured several times and they are all roughly 8-9 weeks old. I tried to post them from different angles to aid in determining their sex. I really hoped the White Leghorn was a pullet because it is my sons favorite. We might have to replace it if it's a cockerel. Gonna get my replacements from a more reputable source. From what I've been reading cackle hatchery and Murray McMurray are the two top options for me. My local feed store seems pretty legitimate though so I might look into that as a viable option. I REALLY want to get some polish pullets though and I think getting them online is my only avenue at this point for that. Any other suggestions for beautiful and prolific egg laying hens?
that case... The little brownish one on the bottom is a pullet and the rest are male. Sorry. :-/ oh yes there are a lot of places to get quality pullets!! If you are looking for specific breeds as well a hatchery or feed store are good options. My favorite feed stores are the smaller more family ones like Agway but I do have a few from tsc that turned out nice though they weren't pullet bin pullets I just lucked out. Breeders are great sources but you have to usually put more work into setting that up and they don't often sex. Murray McMurry I like a lot I have buffs from them through my local feed store that are just so nice!! And I have 3 nice birds from meyer that I really like and I think that their birds are nice and they shipped them very well. I also have cackle hatchery birds and they sent extras. No one gave me cockerels. The only cockerels I have I hatched myself. A lot depends on how many birds and what breeds you want and where you want them from like the mail or a farm or so on. This time of year you can stalk meyers available now for some nice pullet packs if you'd like and leghorns are popular they often have them!

Hispanic/Mexican accent. Lol. I think they're both Roos too, especially given their personalities, leaner build, slower feathering, and combs & waffles. Thanks for your replies. :)

These don't look like cockerels to me... I've got barnies and the males look like males by 6-8 weeks for sure with bigger combs in my opinion... In not saying that they're females but I'm not 100%
From above they look identical with only a slight difference in tail carriage/feathering, but it really depends on what they are doing at the moment. I honestly can’t tell the difference from that viewpoint.

The pictures were taken a few days ago and they will be 10 weeks tomorrow.

think they're pullets then, this breed at 10 weeks the males have disinguisgable combs
