Not Sure If You've Got A Pullet Or Cockerel? Click Here! Thread 2

You just blew my mind. We ordered a mix basket... And all pullets --- so with the chick being black with a white dot I hadn't even assumed to look at chick colouring in our other mixed basket. I think you just helped solve some crazy issues!

We wanted a rooster or two but we were told there weren't any! I thought this was a barred rock rooster--- but this explains all the back and forth!
The nice thing about black sexlink roosters is that, usually, they have silver and barring, and also carry a gene for red. The can produce some very interesting chicks, with a multitude of colorings and patterns. If you want a rooster for making some colorful chicks, they are probably the best choice.

I absolutely want to hatch some of my own one day! This is super exciting!

We started with just four chickens from mypetchicken. They were supposed to be hens. But so far, we can tell at least 2 out of 4 are cockerels. And now I'm fearing my 5 1/2 week old Silver-laced Wyandotte is a roo. What do you all think? I'm really just sick about this. We love our chickens.

Wyandottes can be tricky. I think pullet, for now.

I'm sorry but I'm pretty sure you got a boy there. I could be wrong but I just went through this. I bought 6 silver laced wyandotte pullets and 3 turned out to be roosters. At that age the females don't have wattles yet. :(

This is so awful...I'm so incredibly sad. My kids and I are already heartbroken about our Australorp and RIR. I feel bad for our chicks. They are so reliant on each other and have been such a fun little flock to watch. Keeping chickens is definitely not for the faint of heart! :( I guess I'll keep them hoping for a miracle, or until they crow. Any suggestions on the best time to rehome them?

I would suggest to start now since finding them homes can take so long. I'm really sorry you got so many roosters. We just ordered 11 chicks from my pet chicken. So far all female. I'm hoping I don't get any roosters. We had the same thing happen as you when we purchased our SLW from tractor supply.. :(

Hello.

I posted the other day about my two (hopefully) girls. They are about 18 weeks now. Hope these pictures are okay!
