Pretty birds! They absolutely remind me of my Buff Orpington pullet. That was a very friendly (and slightly broody) bird. Thanks for saving these two cuties. These two were found on the side of the road as chicks. I know this thread is about gender, but my guess is Buff Orpington one of each.

Front is for sure a rooster and the other a pulletI'm back! These are my two French Black Copper Marans at 6 weeks old. On Day One, the chick in the foreground had a big, bright comb, and the one in the background had a tiny grey ridge. Can we go from "probable pullet" and "suspected cockerel" to absolutely sister and bro at this point, given the difference in looks? Or do I have to wait for crowing / egg to be sure? Thanks.![]()
Right now it's really just a guess. Neither are showing male or female traits from these pics. For now female but repost in a few weeks.
Ha, @rockriver - thank you, and you are spot on! I took those two for a stroll alongside the big run just now, and that for-sure-a-rooster took one look at the big ladies in the dustbath, stretched out his neck and said "sshcreeeka!!" or something like that. Lol. Now I need to find someone who wants a really cute cockerel.Front is for sure a rooster and the other a pullet
