I'd almost lay money on this being a black Japanese bantam. Very beautiful, calm birds. I have 14 of them.
The legs are dark and should be yellow but my hatchery birds showed up with a few looking just like that.

Thanks FarmGal. Can I ask what it is about the cochin that let's you know it's a cockerel? And if you know, when sexing a bantam do you look for the same traits that you would in a large fowl?
