Black Wyandotte, pullet. Not drastically smaller than the Buff Orpington or Barred Rock, so probably not bantam.

Thanks Junebuggena. The buff and rock are also bantams. Your the 1st person to suggest Wyandotte and now I see it resembles mone, but I have Laced Wyandotte so not thinking along those lines as never seen a Black.
You are the 1st to say Orpington on the buff, others said Cochin, which are both breeds I've nevery had and these are my 1st bantams. It does have feathered legs. They look the same but everything I read says the feathered legs indicates Cochin or Orpington of an non-pure blood line. Is there a way to tell the difference at this age?

If it has feathered legs you've got a Buff Cochin.

Could just be a pushy pullet. At this point it's all pecking order related, not an indicator of gender. Still much too young to guess gender with any degree of certainty. As for the coloring, might molt out lighter, might be a Light Brahma/Dark Brahma cross.

Ok, Thank you, she is the pushiest of all but she is also the biggest by a big margin. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. Thanks again.

How old? Looks like a POL pullet.

I am brand new to keeping chickens, and I have a flock of chicks who will be 5 weeks this Saturday. 2 of them are definitely roos, and I'm starting to think I may have a third.

This is Waffles, a Barred Rock bred locally by a seasoned breeder. Waffles has always been the biggest of my flock, the earliest to get feathers, etc., and is now getting a ring of rusty-colored feathers around the neck.

Is Waffles a he or a she or is it too early to tell?

Not a Barred Rock. Might be a black sexlink Easter Egger, though. Definitely a pullet.

Well, that explains a lot! Since I've been going off of BR sexing rules, I guess I'm in the dark with all my Black Sex Link...Time to reevaluate! Thanks for the heads up.

I'm looking for help identifying breed and gender of the all black bird laying down in front. I know it is a bantam about 8 weeks old and it's the fastest little chicken I have ever seen.....lol!

Sometimes it's tail feathers are bent up at about a 90° angle.

I think your barred rock is a rooster.
