Not Sure If You've Got A Pullet Or Cockerel? Click Here! Thread 2

Hello everyone! I have these two five week old marans. One is clearly a roo, but can I be fairly certain that the other is a pullet? The 'pullet' is much calmer and more friendly than the roo, but its feathers are actually lighter in color and their feather development have been pretty much identical...

It does look very light from the bit we can see but a photo of the chick standing, no hand, is more helpful.

View attachment 954512 View attachment 953891 I think my 14 week old Barred Rock might be a roo! She had two brothers who were VERY obvious Roos that we rehomed at 11 weeks. She is the bravest, and is always the first to take treats from my hand, and even lets me cuddle her! There are picture at top. The up close is her 3 days ago. The full body shot is her brother at 9 weeks. Do you think she's a he?
Nope, still a pullet.

Here's the two of them again! I know that the woman I bought them from had one particularly light hen, so perhaps that's why its lighter...

I have a Polish that I suspected of being a cockerel back at the 4 week mark and tried to rehome. The feed store worker I was rehoming them with, however, ignored my concerns about "her" reddening wattles and comb-area (I don't remember the name for the flesh above the nostrils) and developing spur buds because her crest was nice and rounded. Now that she's 9 weeks old, however, her comb/wattles are getting bigger and redder, and her crest is getting mighty spiky--though I've heard that crest-sexing is unreliable at this age. I'm fairly confident that she's a cockerel. 20170524_174140.jpg 20170524_173925.jpg 20170524_173208.jpg 20170524_173920.jpg

What do you think?
