I know, I was just saying because that's all there really is to see from the side lol. The comb isn't raised at all.

The crest is actually what we need to see... and posture... in female Silkies the crests are rounder and even length fluff... in males they develop 'streamers', locks of fluff that are longer than the rest of the crest...

I understand your skepticism in regard to whether or not their father really is an Ameraucana. This is their dad.

That splash in the last picture is chick number one's mom. The other chick comes from one of these.
The first chick could be female, you can never be certain what is lurking in the genetics of BBS. Those other two would definitely produce red sexlinks.

You don't need to feed layer feed. It doesn't have any magic ingredient in it. I don't even bother with the stuff. It's just a lot simpler to buy one feed that is safe for everybody. And you may find that a starter/grower feed helps improve the hens' production rates.
.
So I can continue on grower after they start to lay? Right now I am buying starter crumples and layer pellets. I would make things less complicated buying one kind of feed. Lol. What about all flock grower would that be okay? I have babies coming, 2 week olds, 10 week olds and 7 month laying hens and 1 7 month rooster.

Anything with a protein content of at least 18% and a calcium content of no more than 2% will be just fine for everybody. Absolutely no reason to constantly be juggling a bunch of different feeds when you can stick to one that is good for everyone. The issue with layer feed is that the high calcium levels can be lethal over time to birds that aren't producing eggs, and it's just so low in protein.

junebuggena,
You're awesome. Thank you for all the advice. There is so much different information out there that it gets confusing. I always come to BYC to clarify or correct information I've come across. Thank you from a Newbie who wants to do right by her feathered babies.
