Not Sure If You've Got A Pullet Or Cockerel? Click Here! Thread 2

Got to take a few better pics today with natural light of chick 2 and 3 of my Lavender Ameracaunas. Thanks for any replies!
Chick 2, comb looks pretty pink/red but isn't as big as chick 1's comb

Chick 3 that I thought maybe cockerel, comb didn't look nearly as pink today

Chick 1 for reference, pretty sure cockerel

DD & I really like the blue orp. She named it “Jewel.” (Mostly because the last 2 times she named a fav “Blue” it turned out to be a male. In the movie Rio, Blue’s girlfriend is called Jewel, so she feels it will have to be a pullet this time. What sound logic!

Here are some pics of Jewel ages 1-7wks

As you know & can see in the pics above, I’ve been going back & forth on my gender guesses. I can normally tell by 3-4 weeks, but this one’s 7 wks & I’m still not sure. It doesn’t help that DD likes the chick. Her past track record shows 100% of her favorite chicks have turned out to be male. The blue orp is her 2nd fav.in this group The orp's comb says very female, but the red wattles scream male. Each time I take pics, I change my mind about its gender. Today I think SHE looks like a pullet, but last week HE looked like a cockerel. Then someone on BYC jokingly told me that I should simply ask it with what gender it identifies itself. LOL

When I asked DD her opinion of Jewel’s gender. She said, “BOTH,” and basically saw the same things I did. Then she asked if it turns out to be a rooster, can we take it to the vet to turn it into a hen.

Anyway, after all this debate, I decided to take action. Today DD & I gave Jewel an opportunity to identify with her feminine side.

Aw, I think she is a girl. I bet she is just an early developer & you will have eggs early!

I'm leaning toward girl too. I got the mama as a gift from a friend & yes, she matured faster than my line of orps. She laid eggs at 5.5 months, while my orps take 8-9 months to make their 1st egg.

I have a Speckled Sussex nearing 10 weeks old. I purchased as a female. What are your thoughts?

You'll need to wait for rooster feathers (or not). Hatchery SS can have really big combs and it's not too much color for 10 weeks so unless the comb was tiny and yellow a week ago, there isn't anything else to go by.
