So then they might not be what they appear to be. Could be random mixed breeds. In that case, you're going to need to give them a few more weeks before gender can be accurately assessed. Not every cockerel is as obvious as #3, so early on.
We have four chickens, and are fostering six more for a friend. The four we bought came from a school fair, and we don't remember what the guy said about breed. I was looking to see if anyone had any guesses on the breed and gender of a couple of them. First, the one in the foreground of this picture.
And this white and gray one. Pretty positive this one is a rooster. Still curious about breed.
Thanks. I will try again with better light during the daytime. We are really hoping the black one is a hen, but leaning towards cockerel. It is an amazingly sweet bird. Always curious about what we are doing when we come into the room. Happy to be picked up, or to climb on our shoulders and perch.
Up until maybe a week ago I was totally convinced these two were roos. Suddenly I'm feeling more hopeful.... Could these kids be pullets after all?
