Not Sure If You've Got A Pullet Or Cockerel? Click Here! Thread 2

Thanks! From what I've seen I've been thinking Leghorn myself (she seems to fit the pictures I've seen) ... here's a better picture I was able to get ...

Guess I'll know for sure if/when I get eggs ... white or green/blue! She's just slightly younger than the Australorp she's with here but much smaller (are they a smaller breed?) She does have a golden chest so that makes me very hopeful! Her tail is huge so I was worried ...
If she's that much smaller, perhaps she's a bantam Welsummer or bantam brown leghorn. (OR if she's that much smaller, perhaps your blacks are Jersey Giants LOL)

IMO Leghorns & Welummers are on the petite side for large fowl, but I'm used to orps that weigh between 9-12lbs. Both Leghorns & Welummers have bantam varieties, so that's also an option. The earlobe color & comb size will help you determine the breed.
I accidentally got a mystery chick this spring. Here she is sleeping under my pine tree. (now 17 weeks old) Notice how small the comb is. If she were a Leghorn, I'd expect a bigger comb. I'm pretty sure she's a Welsummer and definitely NOT a Spec Sussex like she was supposed to be.

Your mystery chick looks just like my Welsummers. You will know for sure when you get an egg from her!
Supposed to be able to tell Jersey Giants from the foot pad color. JG's have white skin and Australorps have yellow, I think I'm remembering it right.

edit: To avoid confusion, I remembered wrong! Australorps have white skin/footpads. JG's are yellow. Got a mind like a steel sieve!

Reverse that last bit ;)

I have a "Is it a Welsummer or a Leghorn?" too. I'm waiting for earlobes -- the glaring white discs should be a giveaway. I thought for certain she had to be Leghorn because I've never seen a chick feather that quickly but no lobes yet (red or white) at 18 weeks :hmm

These guys hatched May 21st. I have one that definitely looks like a cockerel and two that I feel pretty certain are pullets. One I am not sure of. What do you all think?
Question mark, cockerel

Two pullets

Ahh, white skin on Australorps. Got it! I will check mine later when I put them in for the night. She's so big compared to the others, I was thinking maybe an accidental JG!
