Not sure on this chick...

hey guys, thx to everyone for your comments and ideas, I am trying to adjust to the idea that she is a roo. I just cannot believe that this tiny little fella I put so much time and effort into fixing up is going to have to be killed just because it's a male. Makes me want to scream. I really have fallen in love with her (him). I am checking into farms in the area that may take him but sadly having no luck.

I looked up pics of both the cream legbar and the crele old english and I'm almost certain it's Crele Old English. I looked at chick pictures as well as pictures of other chickens the same age as she is now and I really think the Crele. Thank you for the help. Maybe one of these days I can get pics of my RIR's and our one barred rock up here :)

Hey everyone! Well, there is absolutely no denying that my chick is a roo

. He is now 8 weeks (more or less) and started crowing a week ago, it's still a little on the weak side (the crow) and is not a full blown "cock a doodle doo" but it is definitely a crow. He is the sweetest chick ever and is still eager to hop onto my hand for attention and petting. I don't honestly know how I'm going to let him go. Is there a way to teach him not to crow?? (joking, of course there isn't).

I do have another question though, but this time about his cornish friend. She is white and was labeled as a cornish cross bantam but has a single wing feather that is black on the top half of the feather and reddish brown on the bottom half of the feather, just that one feather! It's the oddest thing. Also, her chest and neck have a slight brown tinge making her look dirty. Do you suppose she is a mixed breed of some sort or do cornish cross just do that? It probably doesn't matter but when she was still a little chick with down, she had a black spot on her back, all of the other cornish bantams in the bin also had black spots.

Also, we now have a mixed age flock, my RIR's are adults and we took in a pair of 3 week BR's, I am keeping the new ones in the temp pen until they completely feather. My question is: can I switch the RIR's to starter feed until the new BR's are on layer feed? Will that affect the RIR's laying? The reason I ask is that we just bought a 40lb bag of starter (the bantams are still on starter feed also) and the layer feed is almost gone. Can they all just share the starter feed until everyone catches up?

Thank you!
Sylie
